Anybody use this place? I went out there this weekend and it was pretty decent. although they wouldn't let my buddy shoot his 300 blackout. Anyone know what's up with that?
I've been going there for almost a decade, they began to make some rule changes recently due to a stray bullet hitting someone in the area. They wouldn't let me sight in my 45-70, and they physically checked my ammo for FMJ. This has never happened before. I see ARs all the time, not sure why they gave your friend problems.
the shooting range has provided all sorts of evidence that the stray bullet could not have come from their range. It has been proven beyond a doubt that it was not a stray bullet from the range that passed through a house's roof far from the range....but the range is now involved in a very "Frisco-Exide" like situation. The range, in a good faith effort tried to raise the height of the burms; however, the city did not accept the necessary permit in order to do so. So now the range has enacted a no high powered rifle policy.
Nice facilities, decent prices, but, like most public ranges in the metroplex, won't get my money due to rules that make it more productive to stay home and dryfire.
agree with NRH on that. Garland is my go to place when I have to go to a range. I sight in or run a new gun for function then leave.
Too many shady people there (patrons) that need to take a firearms safety course before live fire. Albeit, the rifle line is much better than the pistol side. Some of the people that have taken up pistol bays next to me have made me step out into the mud (ya'll been there know what I'm talking about) and just get out of the way.
The staff is friendly enough if you play by the rules. Helpful if needed. I had a cheap Italian .380 that was given to me after being in a trunk of a car for 20 years. Cleaned it up and took it out there, and during a cold range call, couldn't get the slide to lock back without a mag in so the RO simply stuck some spent brass in there and everything was cool.
I was there once, they were less than courteous with me, in fact they were grade A arses, so I won't go back. But I do hope they stay open, regardless of my feelings one less range is a bad thing.
Since all the McKinney ranges closed down years ago, it's the only place I really go anymore (when I'm home). I've always had good experiences with the staff and the price is cheap but like mentioned above, there have been some instances that made me question why someone let them handle a firearm. Also, the last time I was there some less than upstanding looking individual has a Deagle and was letting all of his equally concerning friends shoot it. I evacuated the line at that point.
As far as FMJ... The best I can guess is it's the same as if you've ever practiced archery on a hay bale. The first few dozen get stopped but eventually they start penetrating further until you get a full pass through. With HP or SP the energy dissipation prohibits this.
