I think this has been discussed before, but I couldn't find the thread. Anybody have any recommendations on which CHL class in Austin is the best? I can obviously just google and pick one, just wanted to hear if anybody has any input. Thanks.

FYI, the search function works nowadays.

I used Central TX Gunworks on Ben White close to 35. I'd recommend them.

Astro shooting range on 183 past liberty hill is $60 if you sign up early.

The wife and I did our renewal at Central Texas Gun Works a couple months ago. It was ok but there may be a better solution if you are up north. I'd recommend them if you are already on the south side of Austin. I'm probably going to look for something a little closer to Cedar Park when it's time to renew again.
Having a class at the range would be great. If you do it at CTGW you have to drive to the range which is a good 30 minutes from the class location. Not a huge deal, but it's an extra hour out of your day.
Then there was my whole rant on the Texas Legal Shield issue. Seems like opinions are pretty evenly split on that deal. Again, not a huge deal.

Thanks for the input. I went ahead and signed up for a class at Central Texas Gun Works. Already submitted my app online to the state and scheduled a finger print session. Now I just have to hurry up and wait since the class isn't until July 21st.

I will say that CTGW does an excellent job of handling the paperwork and making the process as simple as possible. I'll give them a thumbs up for that.

Also, Mike seems like a good guy and has had lots of positive reviews for his instruction. I did not have him as an instructor but our guy (don't remember his name) was good as well. I was also very impressed by the team at the range and how they did an awesome job in keeping everyone safe. It was obvious they know what they are doing and have lots of practice with large groups of everything from amateur to expert shooters.

Just an update, I got my class moved up and took it this past Saturday. Overall I had a good experience. Mike Cargill was a good instructor, and he showed funny videos and stuff in the class to keep people interested. I would recommend Central Texas Gun works for anybody interested in taking a CHL course.

I submitted my application and got fingerprinted before taking the class, and they submitted my paperwork today, so hopefully I will have my licence in hand in 30-40 days.
