How long do you want to ignore this user?
AG
I've been thinking about building a washer pit for a while and got to playing around on Google Sketchup last night. I've never built designs or uploaded a 3D model so I hope this works. I've also posted the screenshots for your review.

I know from the other Washer Thread there are many different versions (3hole, 1hole etc). But this is the version I'm most familiar with. Pretty simple design.. Thoughts? Suggestions?

looks pretty nice, i made one similar, but it's closer to square than 3x2. I covered it in outdoor carpet, and it's holding up pretty well.

We always play three hole on boards, and one hole in sand pits. And I tend to like flat boards better too, but it's all personal preference. Definitely agree with the outdoor carpeting suggestion.

Built a similar 1-hole design with handles, a small chain connecting boards for the proper distance, washer storage underneath and clasps to connect the boards together for easy transport....

3 holes.

1 hole.

I prefer flat with a backboard, but I'll take 2 cans/cups/pvc sections in the ground over three hole any day. 3 does seem to be the preferred format out here in SEC country, but I'm still not buying in.

The center of the hole should be 24 17/64" from the bottom edge to be closer to regulation standards.

You should definitely have 3 holes and the above comment is correct if you want to have a regulation single hole board

I'm a one hole type person.

How do you score the 3 hole type?

Oh Lord, not this shjt again.

We tried setting up a little washer tournament a few weeks ago at a party. 10 people argued for 30+ minutes over the rules and how the boards the guy brought weren't correct (it was the only set of boards we had, arguing about a different set up didn't mean jack squat). We ended up playing two games of washers and quitting because nobody could remember what rules we agreed on.

Your pit looks good. If it's what you want to build, build it and have fun with it.

There are regulations for washers?

I always thought the only rule was you're not allowed to wear a shirt. Other than that, we've always just kinda winged it on scoring.

3 hole:

There are variations, but I always played 1, 2, 3 points. First to 21, win by 2. I know some that play 1, 3, 5 points.

I have played on square one hole boxes both covered with sheets of lead. They were pretty heavy but created a whole new aspect to the game. They also had a bell at the bottom that would ring out everytime you hit a ringer...helped to add to the trash talking.

Does anyone know how you can attain lead sheets? I would like to make some boards for this summer.

I'm making a few changes and going to use 1x's to lighten it up a little. Also, instead of 3' I'm going to make it 30".

Sticking with 1 hole. Only way I've ever played.

Also going to try and find some carpet and customize it a little. Will post pics if i remember to when complete.

FTW.

One hole. In the ground. 3-2-1 scoring system.

It looks good to me. Personally I use a three hole board with no slope. 2ftx4ft. It makes it easy if you have people that like to stand on the boards.

Oh and scoring goes 1-3-5 up to 21. on the board is 0 points. if you bust you go back to 12.

These are the washer boards I made for my groomsmen last year.

2' x 4'
3" holes
and if I remember correctly it was 18" from the front to the 1st hole and then each hole was a foot apart.

My dad has the 1 hole version in the ground in his back yard, but for mobility I like the 3 hole
