Long story short... my wife and kids had a near run-in with what we have very good reason to believe was an unregistered sex offender today at a local park. Curious if anyone could run a plate for me. Not interested in this guy's entire life history... but a name would be good.

Incidentally... he drives a vehicle which sticks out like a sore thumb. It's a 1952 Chevy 3100 truck.... antique plates... plate #3Y7F.

Very unnerving situation.

My wife did not.... a crime wasn't committed.

Basically the gist is, my wife and our kids are at the park with a friend.... dude drives up in this truck, gets out with his dog, presumably to walk it. Apparently this individual spent a good deal of his time watching my wife and kids. Awhile later, another lady walks up to them, shaken, suggesting it would be a good idea to leave. She claimed to be a former dispatcher for the local city PD and recognized his vehicle (which as I said, stuck out like a sore thumb). She claims he's a convicted sex offender, but committed his crime before laws were enacted requiring registration... and that using a dog to garner the attention of kids was his m.o. She also claims he had been watching my wife and particulary our kids intently. During this convo, the dude gets his dog and quickly leaves.

Not sure whether this female is legit or not... but I'd like to find out what I can about him just in case.

I did a little searching around and found out a fair amount of info already. I know where he lives (the female actually told my wife as she knew) and I believe his phone number. It so happens he has this truck up for sale and it's listed on the interwebs. What I don't have is a name.

They wouldn't have an issue with getting that information. Find your city's non-emergency number and give them that information.

Look up his address on your county appraisal districts website, he may be a renter but then again he may not. Might not be a bad place to start

Central Appraisal District for your county should have a website where you can search for property owner if you have an address - you could find out his name that way.

whitepages.com has a reverse lookup for phone number also.

+1 on being worth a call to the non-emergency number. Either he's a pedophile, or, its some kind of really odd scam - either way, worth a phone call, IMO.

Rogue, whereabouts do you live? Definitely report it, I can't promise every agency WILL take it seriously, but I know that they absolutely should if for no reason than CYA if something were to happen. Little bits of info like this are often used to piece together the intent behind crimes, and hopefully catch them early enough

Why can't we just arrange face to face meetings between these people and their god.

If I knew that this man had been eyeballing my wife and child I'd be real tempted to knock on his door, tell him I knew his record, knew his MO, knew he had been watching my wife and kid and then warn him that I ever saw him around them again my visit wouldn't be so friendly. Sadly, the police will not do anything if a crime wasn't committed.

Hoss I think that I would do the same thing. I would imagine that those people like to operate where people dont know who they are or their history. If you call him out, and he knows people are watching him then he might lay low for some time.

But I would also bring a buddy with me to stay in the car. Just in case something happened at least you have a witness.

You can totally call about a suspecious person around the play ground.

Mention that you took it upon yourself to do some digging and you found out the dude is a sex offender. Ask why he is allowed to even be at a park.

If a call to the local PD doesn't get any attention I'm sure a call to Fox News and NBC, CBS, etc will.

I do not want to vilify an inncocent man, but it is pretty obivious that this dude is guilty.

+1. I'd also probably hand him an envelope with several pictures of him in it during his daily routine. Just to let him know that I could get to him anytime I wanted.

Also - if he is in fact a convicted sex offender, regardless of when it happened - I'd be willing to bet that part of his punishment is that he cannot go to places like playgrounds, schools, etc. Seems like that would constitute either a violation of parole, or a flat out crime.

The thing is that his criminal record does not specifically say "sex offender" or anything about injury to a child. It has "ASSLT CAUSES BODILY INJURY:FAMILY MEMBER". Which several years ago could very well have been a sexual assault of a child.

And yes you can call and report suspicious activity to the police department. It happens to me all the time when I'm doing surveillance. I'm guessing that I get the cops called on me about 3 times every month from neighbors reporting a suspicious vehicle or the neighbors seeing me repeatedly follow people in/out of a neighborhood.

I'd like to know what town, as well.

Yes... it occurred in Flower Mound.

And while I'd love to do many of the things mentioned here, and almost did (confront him) I also don't want to put myself in a position where I become guilty of something myself. And to OFN's point... yes, he's certainly guilty of past crimes. But even with his criminal record I can't verify he's actually guilty of anything involving a child.

Nevertheless..... I know who he his... what he looks like... where he lives.... what he drives... what his wife's name his.... his phone number... the make, model and license plates of both his cars (that truck is for sale incidentally).... and his criminal history, just for starters.

Whether he knows it or not... I'll be keeping an eye on him... and where he goes.

One other disturbing bit of info... the park this occurred at also has 4 baseball diamonds on it where the city league (kids) play their games.

He better not let me catch him there during such an event.

That sucks. Shame that there's people like that in the world.
