How long do you want to ignore this user?
Anyone know how to get rid of this stuff? The drought last year really did a number on my lawn and I have this Dallis grass weed everywhere. Nothing seems to work in terms of weed and feed.

TIA

1. Pull it.

2. Roundup, but this will kill other grass as well. if you spot treat, make sure you use a pure glyphosate and not one of the "Extended Control" versions that contains extra growth inhibitors.

3. MSMA, if you can find it, since it has been banned for residential use and pulled from the shelves. Industrial customers are still allowed to buy and use it, so if you have an "in" with someone that works the grounds at a golf course, you may be able to get ahold of some.

Ask the Agronomist (TM) says .........
1. Water each clump heavily and pull It up by at the roots. 99% effective.
2. Use Roundup VERY carefully. A good method is to wait until the seed heads emerge, then wipe them with straight Roundup. You will have to wait a week to mow, but it will translocate down the stem.

+1 on MSMA if you can find it. Used to be able to get it at the Co-op in town, but it's been a whole.

I had a bunch 2 years ago. I paid my lawn guy to round up 4 laborers and have them hand pull every one. Took about 6 hours total. The weeds did not come back.

MSMA or DSMA will work if you can find it. If not look for other product for grassy type weed. Use ONLY on bermuda lawns. Anything that kills dallisgrass will also kill st.augustine.

I've tried that stuff with mediocre results. It's cinnamon mixture if I remember and about $30 for a bottle that size.

It took out some of it, But didnt kill some of it either. After buying 2 bottles last year I gave up on that method and have just been hand pulling them when I see them.

I have alot in my yard, but none of them are really big, so I will pull several each day when they pop up and I figure they will eventually be gone.

The ones in my yard aren't big, even though I have it mixed in all over the place. When we bought the house it was vacant for about a year, so I think the preemergent I've been putting down according to randy Lemmon needs a little more time to work since we have just moved in about a a year ago.

The D: concur. My experience with it is the same as yours. And it is pricey - especially when you have to order it online and pay for shipping. But it does kill dallisgrass but not the St. A.

Edit: didn't mean to hit that emoticon...

I had small patches of it. Saturate the dirt. Get your fingers under the nubs and pull the roots out. Stuff is coming back in at less than 20% the original coverage. Repeat to get the rest.

I've been battling this crap for two years. At first I thought it was crabgrass and just used regular weed-b-gone. Obviously that didn't work, so I tried the round-up route by soaking a painters glove in it and then taking it to the weeds individually. This worked for the most part, but they still came back eventually. Now i've resorted to just pulling them up by the roots. Make sure to get the entire route! You have to feel around the exposed dirt to make sure it's all up or your effort will be all for not. I'm about 3/4 done this year and they haven't come back yet. The trick is to spot them early and it's a heck of a lot easier to deal with. Good luck!
