Advice on selling guns

How long do you want to ignore this user?
I have 4 different guns I am looking to sell and need advice on how to go about doing this.

Questions:

  • Should I just sell the guns to a pawn shop, Gander Mtn or similar place? Do they offer a fair amount?
  • Is there a website that lists used gun prices, similar to KBB for cars.
  • Are there laws I need to follow if I sell any of the guns to an individual?
  • Are there websites where I can list guns for sale? Craigslist, Ebay?
  • Any other good resources(websites) that discuss this topic?

I checked FAQ and searched but didn't see this covered so forgive me if it has been covered in detail in the past.

Edit: I live in College Station. I would prefer to sell to somebody locally and I don't want to mess with anything out of state.

You won't get nearly as much money from a place that is going to resale as you would selling directly to the buyer.

I usually check gunbroker.com to see what similar guns are going for. There are some gun value books but I think checking actual selling prices is better.

You can't knowingly sell a gun to someone that can't legally own one. If you're selling to someone out of your state you will have to go through an FFL. Some states/cities (CA, NYC, DC, etc.) will restrict certain types of guns and magazines.

Any clue how much the difference is? For example, say I could get $500 for a rifle selling it myself, how much would I get pawning or selling to Gander Mtn? $200, $300, $400? I am willing to give up some money just to avoid the hassle.

Intrastate (Texas resident to Texas resident) is also required. Must go through FFL if interstate.

I found the BATF website helpful in the regs for individual sales when I was just starting.

If you are willing to not get top dollar you can most likely sell them in an afternoon here on texAgs.

Post them here BigBubba! Definitely do research on Gunbroker.com. Also, many posters here (03KillerAg, Log, LSRR, tx4guns, MisterShipWreck, and others) are gun experts and would probably be happy to objectively help you value them if you ask nicely.

Sell it yourself. I had a pistol that I had put maybe 40 round through that a local gun store was going to give me ~$200 for it and I sold it myself for $325.

Big Bubba, I can only speak for myself on this price range as some pawnshops want to always double their money. If i'm buying a $100 gun i'm going to offer $50. If i'm buying a $2500 gun i'm going to offer around $1800. If i'm buying a $500 gun i'm going to offer around $300. This is all assuming I can actually sell the firearms for that much. If i'm buying an old firearm that takes a unique market you can believe that i'll be buying it for a lot less than usual. Hope that helps. I'd post pics and prices on here first.

Sell them here. List what you've got and a price. You'll sell them fast. There's really no "hassle" to deal with. I've bought guns through Texags and it was no different than buying a necklace, video game, or a dog. Agree to a price, exchange gun for money, shake hands, and go on your merry way!

OK, as requested, I will post a few pics of the guns I am wanting to sell. I would really appreciate any advice on the general price I should ask for these guns. I am NOT a gun expert so I don't have a lot of details but if you have questions just ask and I will do my best to answer.

Gun #1 Dan Wesson 38 Special revolver.

Gun #2 12 ga Remington 870 express magnum with two barrels.

Gun #2 Winchester 30-06 model 670a

Gun #4 Berreta AL 391 Teknys 20a. I actually bought this gun new so I know how much I paid. I don't want to sell this one unless I really can't get much for the other 3 guns.

What's the length on that second 870 barrel?

If it's 18", I may be interested in buying just the barrel, if we can work something out.

edit: And I see you're in CS, Champion will (may) buy them; I know they have a used section. I'd bet they'd give you more money than Gander, but will still be less than a private party.

Naveronski - Yes, I believe it is an 18" depending on how you measure. 19" at the longest, 17.5" exposed when installed. Does that sound right?
Lt. Joe Bookman

Whsts the length on the longer one? 28? 26?

If so I'd be interested in the 870... Without the 18" barrel.

is the scope included in the 30-06?

if so, what is it?
BigBubba
How long do you want to ignore this user?
mbole11 - I believe it is 28".
farmersfight - Yes, the scope is included. It is a Tasco brand DWC39x40.

Case is included with 12 ga and 30-06 rifle.

Any suggestions on price. I am clueless on the 38 and have a ballpark idea for the 12 ga and rifle but would love some suggestions to see if I am correct.

I'm interested in the shotgun with both barrels. Don't have time to research a price right now. Email me or pm. Aggiet2001 at gmail

$250 would be a good price for that 870.
