Answer to capturing those critters:

Absolutely BEST trap I have seen to date because:
1. It is open on both ends, and the armadillo can see through to the other side, but gets trapped inside once his shell bumps into the piece of wood hanging down in the center that springs the trap doors down.
2. If you plan to order from Mr. White, also write him in an e-mail requesting that the wood be *scented* by him with an armadillo. This is the *key* to catching an armadillo soon! It only costs $20 more, but it isn't listed on the order page. Mr. White is very knowledgeable about armadillos and has caught 100's, and his traps have been used at LSU and other places.
He sends the traps in mid-week, and we received our trap two days after ordering it. We caught an armadillo the first night after the trap was set up and caught an armadillo the second night. Have not caught one in the past two nights because I think the two critters we caught were the culprits. We wasted many sleepless nights trying to catch the armadillo 'in the act' and shoot it, but never could get to it. A trap is the best answer to capturing unless you want to spend many nights awake waiting for it.
Hubby took the trap with the animal inside about 10-12 miles away and let it go out in the middle of nowhere. The animal shot out of the trap as soon as the door was open. The animal was wide awake even though it was about Noon, but probably the jostling around the back of the truck in the trap kept the armadillo awake and scared. I thought the best idea was to send the critter on to Armadillo Heaven, but hubby didn't want to shoot it in our yard because of the surrounding houses.
Check out Fred White's website! It's a great trap, and I only regret we waited so long to purchase one.
FYI: We didn't even need wooden guides to guide the armadillos inside the trap. The scent, alone, guided them in. I think total cost (including the extra $20 for the scent) and also including shipping was about $110. Totally worth it. From all that I have read about this guy's traps -- they can be re-used for a long time. They are very easy to set up. This morning, I moved the trap to another area of the yard just to see what will happen. I do not think our yard is *over-run* by armadillos, and that the two captured ones might have been the main culprits, but I would be naive to think that there won't be more lurking out in our area (about 4 mi. out of the CS city limits).
This is now a QUEST to see how many the trap can catch!!
