How long do you want to ignore this user?
A few weeks ago, I started a thread in this Forum asking for help on how to rid my yard of armadillos. I cannot remember if someone gave me the website and name of Mr. Fred White (in Mississippi) or if I just found his name on the Net, but I did purchase a wooden trap from him (which was treated with armadillo scent). The trap has only been up for two nights, and has captured an armadillo both nights! This is the best trap I have seen yet. We didn't even put down wooden guides to lead the armadillo into the trap...the scented trap was all that was needed.

I HIGHLY recommend this trap!! If anyone would like the name of the website, please let me know. We received the trap two days after ordering it. My only regret is that we didn't order it sooner! Words cannot express how pleased we are with this trap!

I paid an exterminator to put a trap for me (I live in Shenandoah). Between the cost of the cage and the fee to get rid of the actual armadillo - I paid $85

Answer to capturing those critters:

http://www.TheArmadilloTrap.com

Absolutely BEST trap I have seen to date because:

1. It is open on both ends, and the armadillo can see through to the other side, but gets trapped inside once his shell bumps into the piece of wood hanging down in the center that springs the trap doors down.

2. If you plan to order from Mr. White, also write him in an e-mail requesting that the wood be *scented* by him with an armadillo. This is the *key* to catching an armadillo soon! It only costs $20 more, but it isn't listed on the order page. Mr. White is very knowledgeable about armadillos and has caught 100's, and his traps have been used at LSU and other places.

He sends the traps in mid-week, and we received our trap two days after ordering it. We caught an armadillo the first night after the trap was set up and caught an armadillo the second night. Have not caught one in the past two nights because I think the two critters we caught were the culprits. We wasted many sleepless nights trying to catch the armadillo 'in the act' and shoot it, but never could get to it. A trap is the best answer to capturing unless you want to spend many nights awake waiting for it.

Hubby took the trap with the animal inside about 10-12 miles away and let it go out in the middle of nowhere. The animal shot out of the trap as soon as the door was open. The animal was wide awake even though it was about Noon, but probably the jostling around the back of the truck in the trap kept the armadillo awake and scared. I thought the best idea was to send the critter on to Armadillo Heaven, but hubby didn't want to shoot it in our yard because of the surrounding houses.

Check out Fred White's website! It's a great trap, and I only regret we waited so long to purchase one.

FYI: We didn't even need wooden guides to guide the armadillos inside the trap. The scent, alone, guided them in. I think total cost (including the extra $20 for the scent) and also including shipping was about $110. Totally worth it. From all that I have read about this guy's traps -- they can be re-used for a long time. They are very easy to set up. This morning, I moved the trap to another area of the yard just to see what will happen. I do not think our yard is *over-run* by armadillos, and that the two captured ones might have been the main culprits, but I would be naive to think that there won't be more lurking out in our area (about 4 mi. out of the CS city limits).

This is now a QUEST to see how many the trap can catch!!

Sasappis: No ad! This is just how excited I get after FINALLY finding an answer to our armadillo problem. Believe me, I did a lot of research over many months, spent many nights losing sleep getting up at night with my husband to hunt the critter down, and was so happy that I convinced husband that a trap was the way for us to go. He has the guns and ammo, but the big problem was getting the animal trapped. I went to a store that had steel traps, and the guy at the store said that it would be very difficult to lure an armadillo into a steel trap for various reasons. When I found the website I mentioned above, the description of the trap made sense, as well as having the armadillo scent. As for the scent diminishing from rain, from what I've read, many of these traps have singly caught many, many armadillos. The captured armadillos have only added more *scent*, which has proved to be very helpful. I guess time will tell, of course, but if I ever feel that the trap has lost it's scent, I will write to Mr. White and ask him what the next step is.

All I can say is that I am a satisfied customer, and it has worked well for us.
