I live between Bastrop and Austin. I'm thinking of getting a new bow for the first time since high school. Anyone have any recommendations for a good shop in the Austin area?

Also: is it better to buy a bow in a shop, or get one off one of the websites linked on the other threads?

You could go to cabelas to shoot them then research online to find one cheaper.

Go to Archery Country in Austin at 183 and Anderson just past Lamar on the northbound feeder.
Mike can get you set up, they mainly carry Mathews but also have a selection of the popular Hoyts (pick one of these) and a couple other brands.

i went to archery country once before they moved and i have a fred bear and they acted like they didnt want my business because i didnt shoot a mathews. just an observation hopefully that has changed.

Try L&L Archery in Bastrop. It's right across from the Ford dealership and Larry really knows his stuff about bows. The one drawback is he is strictly a Hoyt dealer. I went to Double G in Georgetown to get my bow. They have Bowtech and Hoyt there and a really good selection of bows.

Thanks for the replies. I think I'll try archery country if I can get my wife on board. For some reason, she thinks I spend too much money on my "toys."

If you have a reason to be up around Belton, you can try Peacock's. That's where I've been going for a while.
