Check Neil Sperry's web site. I've heard him discuss this topic. I think it's in his FAQs.

It's called i-l-l-e-g-a-l a-l-i-e-n-s. You can find it outside Home Depot. For $80 I had three pull every weed in my yard by hand, and an English speaking supervisor to make sure they did a good job.

What Buck said. Pretty much had to do it, too, since nothing else was working.

I got one of those weeding tools and dug them up. There were only 5-6 weeds, though.

There was a similar thread to this a few weeks ago with a picture....same comments pretty much.

The posters name was 03killerag or something like that.

He was going to try careful application of Roundup.

Thanks for the suggestions. Don't know if this will work long term, but I am mowing the crap out of it. It is tiff Bermuda (golf fairway grass) so I can cut it short. When I do that, what's left of the dallisgrass are these round, flat pods about the side of a dinner plate. they are very visible and very exposed. Now, I know you are supposed to put round up on the leaves, and I have done that. But with the flat pods, I have basically been walking around like Dirty Harry, round up pistol in hand, gunning down every sorry ass pod that comes within my line of sight. On the flat ones, I am spraying smack in the middle. Very little gets on the surrounding grass, and the pod turns brown within 30 minutes. One batch I zapped about a week ago is deader than a doornail. Yeah, I am probably doing it wrong, but it sure is quick and easy this way. The hope is to kill off the big plants, dig up the carcass in the winter, put sand down, and over seed like hell in the Spring. For the rest of the Summer, mow like crazy to hopefully suppress new development. We'll see.....

Do not overseed with bermudagrass seed in the spring. The seedable Bermudas have coarser texture that will not mix well with the hybrids. Is the lawn irrigated?

Howdy!

It sounds like you are doing a good job with the method you have been using. Dallis grass is a perennial weed that can be difficult to control because it comes up from a root system, therefore using a pre-emergent weed control in early spring will not be effective.

Here are two control methods:
1. MSMA - 2 to 3 applications applied 7-10 days apart. This product may cause Bermuda grass to yellow temporarily and does not do a good job of killing the root system. MSMA is also hard to find in stores these days.

2. RoundUp - 1 to 2 applications 10-20 days apart. The problem with RoundUp is that it will kill everything it touches, so care must be taken to not apply to desirable plants or grass.

It sounds like you are already doing all of the right things, so don't lose hope. Dallis grass can take awhile to get under control. Good luck!
