For potatos one of the following
Baked potato
French fries
Mashed potato with cream gravy
Field peas and mashed potato (with or without cream gravy)
Other:
If cooking on a stovetop, slice some onions, separate into rings, and toss in with the steak.
Corn on the cob.
Fresh rolls.
Fried okra patties (most people have never even seen these)
For the mashed potatoes, forget mixing in milk and/or cream. Use only real butter instead, the fresher the better. Keep adding room temperature butter and stirring/mashing until you get it just right. This is far superior to using milk. Don't forget to add salt, too.
For the okra patties, slice freshly picked okra into slices about the width of about two to tree nickels. Make a dough with flour, baking powder, salt, and water. Don't get it very watery -- I like it a bit thicker than a pancake mix. Stir the okra slices in with the dough, and fry on a griddle until brown. I usually use a 1/4 cup measuring cup to dip into the batter and then drop onto the griddle to make patties.
