First, I dont intend to start a "blades are a poor choice for defense" debate. I already know they are.

Since I am about to embark on a four year journey to a location that will not allow me to carry my primary defense weapon, I am looking at some other options. While I do have a EDC knife, dress code requires scrubs or business casual. I am anticipating having to wear scrubs 95% of the time. This seems to limit my options.

I have several questions for anyone that has ever done something similar:

Has anyone carried a knife around their neck?
Specifically, I am looking at the RAT Izula, and either KA-BAR's Becker Necker or its bigger brother the eskabar.

I was thinking the best way to conceal it would be to wear it similar to this:


I havent ruled out folders, but I think I have ruled out ankle carry.

Ideas?

If you are not allowed to carry your gun, bad guys aren't either.

There is no reason for you need a knife. Everyone is safer this way.

Oh, I am not worried about the gun-free zone.
It is walk to and from my vehicle I am worried about.

Around the neck? Like on a lanyard? I'd go with the eskabar! Dudes gotta serious wanna f you up if you pull that beech out and are serious as he'll about using it. It'll be like crocodilile dun-de. "that there anit a knife, this here, this is a knife.". You could also just get a Donk.

Is a belt out of the realm of possibility with scrubs? I've been thinking about a Benchmade Nimravus point up on the right side. It would take a little rigging to get it there. I was thinking of mounting it to a belt with something like an IWB holster.

Not the greatest defense option but it never hurts to carry a big ass knife just in case you need one for ???

Microtech has been my carry knife in situations where a gun was not an option.

Halo or Makora would be my two current choices.

Asheville would be a cheaper option, but I wouldn't carry it.

Most scrubs I have seen and worn do not have belt loops. So to wear a belt, would be underneath the scrub pants, directly on your skin.

don't worry about it. there's plenty of stuff at dental school you can kill someone with! Also, lot's of times there that i'm glad i didn't have a knife handy if you know what i mean (j/k, but not really, but yeah)

surely there's a shorts version of AC's super compression shirt holster.

I've got a RC Izula and it is a heck of nice knife to carry. Trying to think how to carry it while wearing scrubs (the gf is a PA and wears them), I wonder if possibly you could tie it in with the drawstring horizontally right under your navel. The hard plastic sheath has serveral holes in it that might allow you to do so.

Sounds as if you're headed to machete country. Rural Africa and rural Mexico where I've been, everyone packs a machete, spear or a club of some sort.

Exacto knife with pen cap on the end. People will think it is a pen until their jugular is surgically opened.

let's back up a sec.. where are you going to school anyways? lots of guys in my class carried pocket knifes with clips in their bags (sometimes clipped to their back pockets, but they tend to dig in your butt cheek whilst sittin). you will have a bag on you most of the time afterall. you could keep jusy about anything in a backpack/shoulderbag. shoulderbag would give you quick access to a knife if you needed it.

The microtech are automatics right? Meaning they ate switchblades which you can't have outside your home right? Or did I miss something where you can know have switchblades

Also have you considerd a taser, Check out the c2 model. i think it would be better than a knife.

That is a good point. Not sure why I didnt think of that.

When I go for a run or am out and about in basketball shorts, I just take my benchmade and clip it in the waistband. It's a little bit slower to bring into action than from a pants pockets, but not by much.
