Crow on the ground at 300 yards... Head shot with .22 ... sights are worn completely off.

Probably luck... But I have put over 30,000 rounds through that gun and shoot it like a shot gun... Both eyes open...

When my older brothers turned 16, they got a brand new .22 each. I being much younger did not have a rifle to my name yet, but I knew how to shoot. They took the rifles into my grandmother's backyard (out in the country, 2+ acres out back) to shoot at some glass soda bottles. They fired off a few rounds and did minimal damage. I begged and pleaded just to shoot once, and they finally relented. First shot, I shattered the glass bottle much to their amazement. I think they went on for a few minutes about how the airwaves around the bullet vibrated the glass at its resonant frequency and that's why the glass shattered even though I clearly missed the target since I was just a baby kid. I attest that I have not nor will I ever let them forget what a crock that was.

I also took down a 250lb boar from 75 yards with a 6mm when I was in high school. The round ricocheted so much after it entered at the lungs behind his front right shoulder that we found it in his left hindquarter (shredded stomach, heart, lungs). I learned a valuable lesson about sizing my target while cleaning that dang mess.

Obviously Killer and 44 have this hands down and anything I add is purely for fun. A few I can add:

A goose out of the air with an m1 carbine
A buzzard out of the air above me with a .22 pistol
A turtle at about 325 yds with my Fulton Armory Titan (FAR .308). Effer must have bounced 15 feet in the air
A quick draw shot of a 25 pound mudcat surfacing on a creek with a .44 special

And for the artistic flair - a full canister of old cannon black powder of my father in laws with my ar-15. It caused a ~5ft fireball and about a ~15 to 20ft mushroom cloud. Too damn bad we didn't record it.

The coolest weapons I have shot are M2 .50 cal, MK 19 automatic grenade launcher, and a claymore mine. Alas, I was just firing on a range.

On the bright side, I once hastened the departure of a car filled with suspected gang members with one .00 buckshot shell from a certain 5th Ward property in my care.

Ok, this wasn't me, but a guy I know...

Back in the early 90's the Astros had a billboard on I-45 north between 610 and the beltway. It was a normal billboard except right in the middle there was a giant inflated baseball. I think you know where this is going. This guy had fantasies for months about shooting it. My dad (who worked with him) said it was an extremely bad idea. It didn't matter. One night around 2 am, he pulled over on the shoulder, got out his 10/22, and killed the baseball. I didn't believe him until I saw it the next day, deflated. I can imagine what the sign guys were thinking when they went to fix it, found a tiny hole, and a .22 bullet in the bottom. They never did those inflatable baseball signs again.

I'll offer up a "non-battle" story from my time in service.

Don't remember if it was in Germany or France. In any event, the company I was in had found a spot for the next day to "camp out" if you will. Was an area that had a tiny hill that would serve as our "look out". A few men and myself made our way to the top of the hill to scout out the surrounding area. We made a small fire as it was damp and cold. Surveying the area through my field glasses, I noticed a small convoy of vehicles (maybe 2 or 3) heading towards our direction. Military vehicles with the trailing vehicle displaying high officer ranking flags. They made their way to our location and stepping out of the trailing vehicle was none other than Gen. Patton. He made a somewhat walking inspection as we stood at attention. I don't remember the rank of his "handlers", but I mentioned to one of them that we had made a fire if the Gen. wished to warm his hands. He quickly responded with, "THE GEN. DOES NOT NEED A FIRE TO WARM HIS HANDS!" They left our area and Gen. Patton never uttered a word to any of us.

Damn, 1944 just took a dump on my attempt of a challenge. I blame it on todays pc Generals and our lack of men like Chesty Puller and George Patton.

Great story 1944... My wife's grandfather used to tell Patton stories. He never had anything nice to say about him. Not because of his tactics or skill, but he was a low man on the totem pole during a lot of his campaigns and said "you'd have a different opinion if you served under him." I couldn't really argue with him.

I was going to post in this thread but after seeing some of the responses above mine doesn't seem all that impressive.

my grandfather in law, until the day he died, would cuss Gen Patton because the general almost courtmartialed him and his crew due to dirty uniforms. They were working to get a tank back in order and apparently were just covered from head to toe in filth.

Right after he would cuss Patton, he would immediately follow up with "he was a damned fine combat general."

So he loved and hated Patton at the same time.

Great stories. 1944 - Thank you sir!

Who knew Gen. Patton was the original Chuck Norris or Mr. T.

Most fun ... Hollowed out the pellets from a 20g shell, pushed into a dirt mound, stepped back a couple of paces, took 3 shots from my Crossman 760 before the big boom and a shotgun hull whizzing past my head.

Best shot I am glad I made.
Walked up on a water moccasin in tall grass next to a creek bank. I was alone and completely out of site. The snake rose up to strike about 2 feet in front of me. As slow as I could while still trying to get the job done I fired my 22 cal. Benjamin putting the pellet right thru the back of his head. I remember the snake being so close that I had to put the stock over my shoulder. After I dispatched the snake I immediately turned around and went home.

Speaking of Mr. T, did you know why he wore all those gold chains?

Answer: He took them as trophies from guys he had to kick outta the bar while he was a bouncer.

Pronghorn at 339 yards, 30 mph crosswind. Weatherby Vanguard I, .243. The animal was broadside. Crosshairs were on blue sky approximately one foot behind and one foot above its rump.

The 100 grain Hornady reload entered the neck, dropping the 'lope for good.

Tank targets with 105mm and 120mm.

M3 .45 grease gun was fun to shoot for familiarity.

Best non-main gun shot was a head-and-shoulders silhouette with an M16-A2 at 300m ... wearing an M25A1 protective mask.

A hearty thanks to those on and off this thread who served in harm's way.
