Any suggestions? I've got some old Justin saddle boots that are about worn out. I'm mostly looking at Red Wing Pecos or some Chippewa Arroyos. Anything else I should know about or look into?

Red Wing Pecos 4470s are the best, most comfortable, most durable, longest lasting boots i've ever owned. After the horrific weeklong breakin period, they get better and better.

I second the red wing pecos. I have never been able to break them in that short of time. more like 2 to 3 weeks. And then it seems like my feet were the ones that got broken in, not the boots.

I don't know the numbers, but I have had the pull ons and the lace ups and I like them both.

Wolverine Dura-Shocks. I have 2 pair. Steel toes for work, regular for everyday wear. They were very comfortable right out of the box.

4470 for me. Outgrew my first pair after 5 years, got a second pair and have put about 9 years on them now, 1 new sole and still going strong. Though i kill insoles like nobodies business.

Love my redwing pecos!

Or you could buy the charity army boots.

I have a pair of Hytest Wellingtons with a wedge sole that I have 10 years on. They are without a doubt the toughest pair of boots I have ever had. If you want indestructible boots these are worth a look.

I wear the Red Wings, love them. Worn out now and leak, been meaning to replace them but REALLY hate the idea of chunking them.
I guess I have gotten my money out of them though. I bought them in 1986.

Are the Ariat Work Hawg the recommended model of ariat work boots according to the OB? Gonna be needing a new pair of work boots before long. Red Wings are ok, but a ***** to break in, plus I refuse to pay that much for a pair of boots built like a Justin for for 60 bucks cheaper. Justin boots are usually what I buy because they are comfortable out of the box and they hold up well, but I was interested in exploring other options.

Red Wing Pecos for me.

The upgraded insoles are worth the money- I forget what they are called but you put them in the oven then in your boots and stand on them. They mould to your feet. A-MA-ZING comfort.

I just got a set of those insoles after owning my boots for 7 years. I didn't reallize how bad the previous ones were til I got these!

Redwing Pecos here too. I could run in those things they were that comfy. Wore my first pair for over 12 years. On my 2nd pair.

ever try soaking them in water and then wearing them until they dried? My brother-in-law always did that with his boots. his work boots and even his high dollar dress boots.

Yup, I have these in my lace up redwings. They are about the only thing that is comfortable on the boot. Nevermind the fact I had to pay extra for them. That's why I am considering getting a different brand. Less cost, and no extra money for good insoles.

If you have the time and money, look at White's, or Wesco's. They custom make their work boots to your foot measurements and will give you a lot of options such as sole/heel type, heights, lace eyelets type, etc.
I got three years of everyday wear out of my last Redwings so you can't go wrong there.

Right now I'm wearing a pair of Hathorne's, which is owned by White's I believe. These were made to my foot measurements. They aren't as quality built as White's or Wesco's, but they're a big leap forward in quality over Redwings, plus they can be rebuilt when they wear down. I was actually planning on getting another pair of Redwings until I noticed that for about $60 more, I could get a pair of Hathorne's made for me.

If you've never had boots made to fit your feet before, it's worth it.
