My wife and I are going fishing this weekend in Texoma, which requires a separate fishing license. Last year we made a late night trip to the Wal Mart in Denison to purchase the license. Are they available anywhere in the state or only locations close to the lake?

Sorry if this is a dumb question...but the answer might save me a trip to Wal Mart if they aren't available here.

I have bought one before at the Bass Pro in Grapevine but any of the bait shops/convenience stores near the lake sell them also. It is a lot different than getting a Texas license.

BTW, you can fish with just a Texas license but you have to stay on the south side of the Red River channel. It is worth the $9 to be able to fish the whole lake.

I've always bought my Texoma license online. I think its an extra $12 this year. Go to http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/business/licenses/online_sales/ to get started.

You should be able to buy them anywhere that TP&W licenses are sold. ...or as was already mentioned you can buy them online and print them on your home printer.

Our place is at Alberta Creek and I bought my license there. It was about $12. I think Sean said it, but Catfish Bay will probably have them, and the Gas Station off the highway right on the State park should have them as well.

You should be able to get them anywhere

Not trying to call you out, but this isn't true. Since texoma is a border lake it puts it under federal jurisdiction. The Game wardens are federalized. A texoma license is a texoma license!

That being said I can buy one in OK and fish in TX.

http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/fishboat/fish/recreational/lakes/texoma/

"Two-thirds of this lake lies in Oklahoma. Anglers with Texas licenses may fish in the Texas portions of the reservoir, or purchase a Lake Texoma license ($12) to fish the entire lake. The following length and bag limits apply to the entire lake:"

yes, you can fish the Texas side with just a Texas liscense.

The Texoma tag is $12 and is available anywhere you can get a liscense in the state.

I also think that if you have both TX and OK licenses you don't need a Texoma license.

Who ya gonna believe? A bear chaser and a guy from Kansas, or a guy in the Coast Guard?

You will probably have to explain to the clerk about the special Texoma license if you're buying it somewhere other than the Texoma area. It took me 20 minutes to convince the guy at a San Antonio Academy that there was indeed a seperate license. Also, remember that the Texoma license is good January-December... not September-August like many of the other license's that we buy.

...a bear chaser who works for the department that you're trying to buy the license from and a guy from Kansas that fished the lake (both Texas & OK sides) 2 days ago.

Don't forget a guy who grew up on the lake, has a place on the lake now, and fishes it on a regular basis (myself).

Just got back from our Texoma fishing trip over the weekend. We caught our limit in a few hours. The fishing wasn't as good as last year, but we still had a good time. Our guide also mentioned the late freeze killing most of the bait fish. He said they aren't replacing the void (enough), so a lot of the fish are starving. Sounds like striper fishing might be tough in the coming years.
