Will he be able to pass them or is this an emergency? He is a 3 yr old beagle, 30 lbs.

My father (who is a vet) say's the best thing to do is to make him throw it up immediately, but I dont know how long it has been since he ate them.

He says it's still best to make him throw it up by giving him a teaspoon or so of salt in the back of his throat.

Hydrogen peroxide will also induce puking. This is what the vet told us to do when our pom ate a bag of chocolate covered coffee beans. It worked really, really well and the dog can't stand the sight of chocolate covered coffee beans.

and if you get him to vomit it is still a good idea to take him to the vet. not necessarily tonight but tomorrow would be a good idea.

I think you may have inadvertently invented a dog with his own poop clean up function.

Kudos!

BTW, my non-expert thoughts are that as long as they aren't reinforced paper towels (the ones with the nylon netting) then he should pass them just fine. Let us know if the poop comes out gift wrapped.

In college, I had a basset that ate a couple dryer sheets. She didn't poop for about 4 days. When the head pressure finally built up enough to pass the sheet(s), what came out was pretty interesting to say the least. It didn't seem to harm her in the long run though.

Other things she has eaten and had near death experiences with:
1lb bag of macadamia nuts (locks up the dogs muscles)
A bunch lilies
A stick that she swallowed tore her GI wall
About 3 dozen chocolate chip cookies (Although even though it was a bunch of chocolate, it didnt seem to harm her)

my lab crapped out about a foot of 1" tubular webbing a couple of weeks ago. was pretty funny watching him try and shake it loose.

High fiber. Don't worry.

Mine did the same thing a few months back and it was the easiest poop to pick up he ever made. He's about twice the size of your dog, though. 65# GSP.

How did that work for his breath? Ya might be onto something.

The only thing my lab has swallowed that he hasn't been able to pass through was a chunk of corn cob. Had to get it surgically removed. $1,800 later, he was good as new.

My dogs have gotten into the trash and eaten, and passed (found the results in the backyard)

The netting from a pork roast (several times over the years)

The plastic covered aborbent pads they put under the meat in meat containers (several times over the years)

Food saturated paper towels

Pieces of food wrappers of various types, mostly parts of plastic wrappers or cardboard.

2 small pet turtles.

Granted, my dogs are in the 55-65lb range. If I catch that they've eaten it within an hour or so, and it was a large object, I'll use hydrogen peroxide and give them a good dose of it, and they'll puke it up. Had to do this recently when one of my dogs knocked over a pyrex dish and ate the contents, including a couple of small fragments of the broken glass. He puked it back up after a couple of good chugs of HP, no harm done.

I wouldn't worry excessively about it, being paper and all.

How long did those dryer sheets keep the poop piles smelling fresh??? You may be on to something

Sadly, it didn't keep the poop (or her breath) as fresh as you might think.

Back the drawing board, fellas.

i'm also 99% certain he has consumed a prophylactic recently...though nothing has turned up yet. he's generally very good about not getting into things...but every once in a while the 'tard comes out in him...

30lbs is nothing, I have 35# and 40# beagles, granted the 40# beagle is a fattie but the 35 pounder is has almost 0 fat and is in perfect condition.

I bet the dog will be fine and pass the papertowels no problem, our beagles get into so much crap and we have never had a problem.

They did however eat about 10 pounds of rat poison between the 3 of them one time. We had to induce vomiting with peroxide and mustard. That was a giant suck, I had peroxid and mustard all over me. Luckily they all survived.

I have a mutt that's going on 13-years now. Once, back in college she ate a baseball I had in the yard and had poop on a rope for a while.

A couple of months ago my roommates Black Mouth Cur ate and passed a whole paper towel.

He somehow managed to swallow the thing whole and one day I saw him spinning around like crazy and dragging his a$$ on the ground trying get something that was stuck. Went up to find that the whole paper towel was still intact.

Nice AGR. My wife and I have a black mouth cur. Not that much of a chewer/eatter, but i have found pen caps in piles of crap in the back yard before.

Growing up i had a doberman which ate some heavy tarp, then proceeded to poop stringed turds for a week. You had to go step on the string of poop from her so she could run off and pull the rest out. That dog would regularly graze though so she could throw up grass and stomach fluid...

Mine ate an entire roll of blue painters tape. I started finding it in his poop on a Tuesday so the eating was done early Monday I think. On Wednesday morning he threw up his dinner from the night before. I took him to the vet and she pulled the cardboard roll, tightly twisted, out of his ass. After that he was put on a high fiber diet for a few days. He continued to pass some blue flecks until Saturday or so.

My heeler ate two plastic frisbies, and uses a mesquite log for a chew toy. He has eaten peppers wrapped in bacon that still had the toothpics in them that fell off the grill. swallowed them whole. He ate a bandanna that was tied around his neck and passed that as well. He has also chewed up his metal dog dishes, and an aluminum hubcap I thought would make a more durable frisbee. I think your dog will be fine...

We had a dog eat and shiet a balloon. Once passed, it still had the knot and a small amount of air. I laughed for two weeks after that.

Doesn't most modern paper towels include some amount of plastic to keep them from disentegrating as soon as they get wet?

the most disturbing part about the original post was TEN PAPER TOWELS WITH BACON GREASE.

My friend, bacon grease is good for you, and it's a shame that you were throwing it out by soaking it up with (inedible, or so we thought) paper towels. DO NOT THROW IT AWAY! USE IT!

Never make this mistake again. Your dog will thank you.
