I have only fished the spillway twice. Only once was I successful (spill was open). Need some fresh ideas.

I usually head to Lake Limestone or Conroe, but being back in B/CS I need something closer.

Rows, did you have any luck below the dam? I was throwing the same lure as the orientals on either side of me and never had a hit. They caught over a dozen each durin the same time frame?!!+

What he said. I'm ready to take my two son's out on the lake fishing, but I don't have any idea where to go for any type of fish.

All depends on what type of fishing or what you're fishing for? Somerville is a great catfish lake and you can catch'em almost anywhere. A couple of sundays ago there was no one at Rocky Creek and if you just tight line at the boat ramp it's no telling what you could catch.

I havent tried the Lake Side other than the marina, which got nothing.

When I tried the creek side of the spillway:

First time (spillway open): lots of blue and channel cats being caught, I caught mostly whites (5) and a crappie. (I was only using minnows, which was a bad idea because the current coming out of the damn was brutal, lost a few minnows)

Second time (closed spillway) calm: A few cats being caught around me, and a guy catching 90 lbs worth of bull-fish. But I got nothing.

I just dont know of any place other than the spillway/creek that yields anything. I would hate to try and coastline fish.

The island at the end of Welch Creek park. Wade out until you can't, then cast out towards the main lake. Two submerged creek channels on either side of that island merge there, and there are always fish at that dropoff.

I've caught one bass at somerville. One bass...well it was close to 10lbs.

If you are fishing on foot which it sounds like. Going to welch and walking out to knee/thigh deep and casting out crawfish tails as far as you can you can catch a lot of whites and hybrids on the side of the park facing towards big creek (back side).

You can catch the whites from now through June by fishing the down-wind side of the lake. Using minnows or crawfish. It's best to seine your own bait from that shoreline. The key is the bait has been blown to that side of the lake and the whites follow.

Way to many limits of whites from Somerville to even count!
