I'll be hunting south Texas, so its got to be a cam that doesn't have an exposed lcd screen, they melt in the heat. I am not opposed to spending a little extra, but cant drop $200 either. I have looked at academy, but I don't know which brands to stay away from. Any recommendations will be appreciated.

There isnt a good one under $100 imo. The moultrie i40 is one of the best deals. Sean posted about a cuddy back for like $150 too. Same price as i40. The lcd screen wont melt in s texas.

Ive been hunting sw dimmit county and using them without a problem. If for some odd reason it did happen im pretty confident they would replace it. Their customer service is top notch. Other guys i hunt with use them and a couple of cuddy backs. No probs with either. And yeah it does seem like the surface of the sun down there.

Moultrie D40 is a good one IMO. No IR, but takes great day pics and good night pics. I have had mine in S. Texas for a few seasons and had no problems at all. They sometimes are on sale for 69.99 at BassPro but are 99 usually.

I was in Sam's this past weekend and they had a Wildview Infrared Video game camera for $97. I am still of the opinion that if you are putting them at a feeder, a cheap model is just fine. I have two of the basic Wildview cameras that I paid $49 for a couple-three years ago. The only difference between it and the expensive ones that my buddy has on the same lease is that mine just take pictures with no info on the pic. His puts the time, date, moon phase and temperature on the picture. His also let you name the location on the pictures. I get just as many pictures as he does.

No offense, but if you can afford to hunt South Texas step up and buy a quality camera. I would never put out a mediocre camera that may or may not take a picture of that buck of a lifetime when he walks past. You won't regret the extra $$ in the long run.

Expensive cameras break too. I went through 2 >$500 cameras and said eff it. Went back to my cheaper ones that have lasted over 3 seasons.

bushman, I can afford the lease, but that about tapped me out. I wasn't planning to lease until next year, but this came open and I couldn't refuse, plus I got a hell of the deal.
Any feedback on the Remington game cam, it has IR and is 5mp. Will it stand up for a few yrs?

Also, I am doubting that I will see muy grande come to the feeder, If I see "that" buck I hope I am able to get a shot off. They always seem to be elusive and don't really come to the feeders, but pop out while chasing the does. I really just want to get a feel for which culls and the number of does I want to take out each year.

You might be surprised by the big boys. S texas in itself is a different animal than many other places. Im slowly learning that.

I wasn't saying that expensive cameras are perfect, what I said was I wouldn't even think about a cheap ($100 or less) camera on my deer feeder. There are lemons from all brands, but overall the nicer brands last longer and have better warranties.

Uncover, you would be surprised what bucks will visit your feeder when you are not there. I have gotten pictures of huge bucks, usually at night, at my feeders that I have NEVER seen in person. It's just nice to know what is lurking around.

You get what you pay for, and if you buy a cheap camera, you get a cheap camera. Good luck with your lease.

I think you can find decent Flash cameras around $100. I think if you look at infrared in the price range you are throwing your money away.
