It's not your fault if it just happens to wander onto the piece of cheese on this in your garage.....

You have the RIGHT to own a cat (although I can't imagine why you would).

Ergo, you have the RESPONSIBILITY to make sure it doesn't eff with my property.

I own a dog. It doesn't **** in your lawn or bite your children because I am RESPONSIBLE for it. Cats that run all over the neighborhood kill birds and baby rabbits. In wilder areas, they will absolutely destroy quail, pheasant and turkey nests.

I am not one of the "kill everything" kind of guys. But damn it, I'm tired of this. Keep your damn cat inside, or I will deal with it. I'm not even certain which neighbor it belongs to, although I think I know. It's one of three houses. The only one with children has a dog. It's possible they have both, but somewhat unlikely.

I don't see how you can have much of an attachment to a creature that spends all of its time roaming the neighborhood, rather than in your home.

AC,

this evidence trail is to long. If you think about doing this it might not be best to advertise your plans on the net. SSSU.

could the beagle catch it?

a couple years ago my neighbors big fat ass cat literally attacked my sisters dog while she was here visiting with her husband.

i dont know why anyone would own one, but my sisters dog is a tea-cup poodle, weighing in at around 3lbs full grown, and this cat put a wound on this dog requiring 17 stitches, and this all took place on my property.

that night i shot the cat with a 44 mag, picked up the body, placed it in a trash bag, and threw the bag into a creek.

it somewhat pissed me off watching my sister cry about this dog, she thought would die, when i found out the dog would be fine, i killed the cat.

My fav trap for a cat that likes to get into trash cans...

Big plastic trash can, half filled with water. Take the top and cut a hole in it about 9 inches wide.

The cat can get in but can't get out.

AC - I'd suggest a catch and release. Turn him loose in a far away neighborhood.

Do not confront your neighbors about their cat. There is nothing they can do, or most likely will do anyway to restrain its movements. Therefore if anyting "happens" to their cat, you will likely be blamed.

I confronted my neighbors about their dog challenging me (not nice barkng but head down teeth nashing snapping challenge) in my driveway and garage. I told her and she said no way her dog was nice. I told her her dog was gonna hurt someone, maybe a little kid. "oh he won't hurt anybody". I said "i can assure you he won't hurt ME" with a serious look in my eyes. Well the dog dies and I have nothing to do with it but I guarantee you the think I had somehing to do with it because I mentioned the problem.

Just take the cat out if mothballs don't work. Try the "noose" with a piece of PVC and rope. Something quiet and efficent, with no noise.

The cat will not change. You will have to change its actions for it, if it does not respond to nice methods.

Dude, seriously, if the cat has a collar, catch it and attach a note to it stating that this animal is a destructive force in the neighborhood. If caught again, the destructive force will be turned on the animal.

Trap and catch the SOB. Then head to the coast and use as shark bait.

Damn, was it a cat or a grizzly bear?

Okay, yesterday this was my favorite thread ever, but like a little kid with a kitten that has grown into a cat, I'm done with it. Time to let it outside and have it be someone else's problem.

Sorry. count me with AggieDent on this one. I just don't see why this can't be handled without killing or kidnapping the cat.

For the record, I am NOT a cat person. Last cat I had I sent to the pound because it pissed me off. But it was MY cat.

If you kill/send this cat to the pound, whoever owns it will just buy another outdoor cat and more than likely you're in the same boat. And if you kill it and get caught (which I'm pretty sure you're smart enough NOT to get caught, but you are talking about it on a public message board) you can be in serious trouble. I still think talking to the owner is a good idea.

FWIW i've heard of people digging a hole and burying the cat with its head sticking out and getting the lawn mower after it...kinda sick

an easier less bloody approach:
my dad said they used to get an old corn cob and soak it in turpentine and shove up the cats rear end and he said you've never seen a cat climb a telephone pole so fast

This is a great point and has been overlooked by the rest of us in our rush for a quick solution. They’d probably respond with more then one cat too. Pretty soon you'd be dealing with a cat insurgency and your wife would be threatening to veto any household budget that continued to fund your immoral and unjust war against the cat. She would accuse the cat operation from distracting you from the real mission (i.e. your honey-do list) and would demand a time table for withdrawal from the cat war, stating that “the beagle can deal with its own problem.”

You need to deal with this problem at the source and the solution is pretty clear. You need to terminate the cat owner. . . . with extreme prejudice.

We used to have these two cats, no clue who the owner was, but were collared, come and crap in our yard and stir up the dogs in the middle of the night. This is how we remedied...get a small compressed air semiautomatic bb gun with a laser sight (pistols are more convenient and shoot with less than lethal velocity). They are very quiet. Shoot cat as many times as possible while it desperately tries to escape your yard. Note: make sure you are firing metal bb's, not plastic. If the cat is stupid enough to come back, repeat. Repeat until 1. the cat doesn't come back, or 2. you critically wound it since it is too stupid to evade your bullets, then throw it in a lake/creek/river. Our particular feline friends were pretty smart. It only took them 2 or 3 times to figure out coming into our yard meant a world of pain. Alternative if you live outside city limits, sub bb gun with .22 loaded up with ratshot...that should only take 1 time.

There is a white persian with a death warrant in my hood right now. It likes to spay on porches and crap in yards and beds. walk on newly washed cars. Nothing like opening the door in the morning to that just peed on smell.

Geez I needed a good laugh. My wife came over to read because I was laughing so hard.

I vote for the antifreeze hotdog weenies. No noise, no proof. Second choice would be the mini-gun.

Use a live trap. Haul it off alive and unhurt, preferably to the pound.

Best thread I've seen in a while.

AC, if you trap the cat and relocate him, he'll be back in a few weeks. They can find their way home again. Trust me I tried.

Next thing is, never talk to your neighbor and then proceed to do violence to said animal. They may not can prove it, but you make yourself a suspect by just mentioning it to them. Third, make absolutely, positively that you can dispose of that ****er in a way no one can see or suspect you did it.If you load a trap up in the middle of the night the damn thing will probably be makin all kinds of noises. Someone will always be watchin, I guarantee.

Two quick stories. Mom had more stray sheet around her house in the country than I could ever deal with. One day we're all playin softball and this damn cat strolls right up to home plate and takes a quick piss on it. Little did I know that he had already visited my truck while the window was down. You cannot get cat piss out of the carpet or the intake to the AC/heater.

When I was in high school I used to quail hunt with this old weather beat guy from out in the sticks. He carried a sawed off double barrel 12 with him everywhere we went. He called it old Betsy.

One day we're cruisin the back roads goin to another spot to hunt quail. This feral cat runs across the road and stops in the bar ditch. He eases up real slow , pulls the 12 out and proceded to unload both barrels in mr. feral cats face. Puts the gun up and says. "That sumbeech wont be gettin no more quail in these part" true story.

Cats only have one purpose. Fodder for large dogs. They roam to make trouble on other folks property and breed like rabbits. I dont have any use for em except maybe target practice.

It is very simple....send him to "kitty heaven", I did this with my neighbors dogs after warning him twice about them killing things on my place. I still live in a rural area where one can take care of things and protect what is theirs without a problem. Not knowing about where you live I would suggest doing it very quietly and the kitty just going on a trip that he NEVER returns from. All the bleeding heart on here never seem to realize if his owner cared about him he would not be out roaming around at night. If it was a one time thing maybe he did get out "just that one time" but if it occurs more than once that story does not work anymore. That is part of what I think is wrong with our world today, we some how have raised a generation of vaginae who always want someone else to solve their problems...

Place a nice size can of tuna in an area covered with rat traps, the sticky gooey sheet kind. It will be funny as hell watching the cat walk around the hood with flippers.

I think when you let your pet run loose on purpose, you lose any say in what happens to it.

Nothing worse than see someone move in, take the cat out of the car, and set it in the yard ... I'm a cat person and I hate those cats.

I'd say, keep calling animal control. If they can't trap it, trap it and take it to animal control.

And all of Aggiedent's solutions have nothing to do with solving the problem, just enabling the idiots and their troublemaking cat.

Kind of like the DC gun ban thread, where someone's solution was to move. No, I will not conform my life to allow crap like either of these happen. I'd rather fix the problem ... that's causing the problem.

And I can say that, because like Aggiedent, I'M A MAN!! I'M 40!!

AC....on my serious side. My wife has found a home for every cat that showed up at our door. Some lived outside....lots of them inside over the years. I live on an acreage development backed up to a lot of this. I see cats, dogs, rabbits, squirrels, deer, possums, armadillo, raccoons, foxes, bobcats, coyotes and that migrating hawk that camps out at my bird feeders. Each of them can create a redass effect. My truck has to be parked inside, trash cans in the garage, bird seed, squirrel food and deer corn in really good cans, cats and dogs in at night. In spite of every thing I do they still cause a little grief and I think that's wonderful.

Between the foxes, bobcats and coyotes I see a poster as I exit my subdivision every couple of weeks or so saying, "Missing...."

I have kids come by with a picture of their missing pet.

For me...I'd lots rather find that pet than know why it's missing....but that's me.

I know it may just be me, I believe in standing behind my personal actions. If I felt I had to "shoot, shovel, shut up", it ain't something I'm going to do in the first place. Do what you please, but stand behind you actions, don't hide them.

Off the soapbox now.

The white Persian struck again last night and sprayed all over my front porch.

It also hit my neighbors porch. How long until we take up arms and stop the tyranny? This king of cats on the block who is let to roam freely surely must be taken down. How long must we submit to the will of this felonious feline? Good men of the block rise up! Do not take lightly this challenge to your freedom of a nicely smelling porch.

The Persian must die for the sake of free men and porches everywhere!
