How long do you want to ignore this user?
I have about an 80 foot run of my backyard that butts up to my neighbors house. I want to plant a hedge row or something to pretty up my yard AND hide my neighbors foundation and from view. 3-4 feet tall.

So I need some landscaping advice. I want a plant that will bind together to form one long row to beautify my side and also not damage his foundation with deep roots.

I am in N. Dallas if that matters for types of shrub/plant

TIA

Boxwood, or Juniper.

First question- full sun or shade.

Dwarf Yaupon are very hardy and thrive in full sun and would be very easy to maintain and do not require alot of water after they establish. They are very resistant to insect/disease problems as well.

If you want something a little taller and can be trimmed you could try one of the viburnum species such as vibunum suspensum or viburnum tinus. Both are also very hardy plants as well.

If it is shady just holler back!

the hedge row will be on an East/West direction so it gets direct sun in the summer months when the Sun is high all day long.

In the Winter it will get some some shade from a patio cover.

Thanks for the help. I priced some japanese boxwoods today. Do they bloom anything like the red berries on a holy bush?

No, but they will keep their leaves year round. If you want something that will bloom you might look at hawthornes or gardenias. I have been told that gardenias will not thrive next to a foundation due to pH issues.

Oleander maybe?

Indian Hawthorn would be a thought. By the way, they will not intrude on your neighbot's foundation. Roots grow in response to water, and water only. It tends to be a wee bit dry under foundations.

I went with the japanese boxwood. I know it doesn't bloom anything but I am going to add in a couple of crape myrtles and a bird bath to add color and texture.

I thought about olenader, but I read it is highly poisonous and I have twin 2-year old daughters that put EVERYTHING in their mouth right now.

Wish I would have seen that idea for Indian Hawthorn...that blloms very nicely.
