not exactly "outdoors" but I figure I will more likely get real help on this forum.

We got a pool table recently and need to glue the tips back on some sticks. We got a repair kit from WalMart which includes glue and clamp. The glue just doesn't work. We sand the area a little, glue and clamp overnight. The stick only lasts a couple of games.

My suspicion is that the glue is cheap and/or ruined by hi/low temps during shipping from China.

Should I just get my own glue? Epoxy? Gorilla?

I would use a 2 part epoxy.

I have never found a glue that works really well for cue tips, but I have never used the 2 part epoxy either. I have started using sticks with screw on tips and have been pleased. I really didn't think I would like it, that it wouldn't last but it proved me wrong.

Oh, and the WalMart kit is crap, imo. I have used it too and was disappointed. Go to Academy, their tips/kit is much better

thanks for the replies Ags

I saw those screw-on tips at Walmart which appear to be sold with the plastic ferrule. If I go that route, I would assume I have to cut off the old ferrule and glue on the new set. The only thing that I wonder about on those is that in some Chinese factory, the screw-on part was glued to the leather tip (I think). So how good was it glued then?

Anyway, I have several good things to try.

And, I wont get this sort of thing at WalMart any more.

If it isn't 2 part, it isn't real epoxy...literally.

be careful w/ epoxy if the tips are plastic. it could eat through.

gorilla glue will work well. be careful with it though because it expands. a little goes a LONG way.

i'd try gorilla glue as well. I use it in a lot of woodworking applications and am quite impressed with it's bonding strength.

My first thought was a polyurethane glue also (Gorilla), just be sure to wet the wood before application. works best with about 20% moisture.
