That's for a bare bones A2 or M4 upper with parts from Model 1.

DSA upper minus BCG is $275. DSA stripped blemish lower is $60. You can get a BCG for around $120, a lower parts kit for around $50,charging handle for $25,and stock kit for around $65. Factor in shipping and FFL fee, you can figure on $620 to $650.

As was said earlier: $599 for a complete rifle. You probably can't build one this cheap.

CMMG, mine looked brand spanking new. I am fairly new to AR's but it would take some hard shopping to build one with better quality parts for less money.

Tried a H335 and H322 with 50-something grain Blitzkings and shot amazing 3"-6" 5-shot groups at 50 yards with a 2.5x7 rimfire scope.

Went back with Varget over 50-something grain Blitzkings and Ballistic Tips and shot 1.5" 5-shot groups.

I can't be more pleased with the gun, the price or the loads. Next add will me a Mark AR 3x9 Leupold

Can you just stop following me? I don't really come on texags to deal with people that are just trying to be jerks...

If you really have a problem with me, send an email to texagsoutdoors at gmail and we can figure out a time to meet in person and talk about it like real men...

I have no idea what your problem is, so I can't help you until you tell me...

I'm just saying... Making fun of a gay toolbox or blow up doll is one thing but calling a man a thief is a whole new ball game... I feel the same way about calling someone a liar...

Maybe that's just the way I was raised...

Hell, if cavjock can name one thing I have stolen in my life I will never post on texags again...

It depends on the level of detail you are after. When I decided to build my rifle I researched it and built a component list of what I thought were the best parts on the market. Since no manufacture builds the specs I wanted I pieced it together . That also gave me a chance to spread the cost out over 2 years and find deals

Starting to accumulate parts for a lower -- probably this weekend. I've identified the upper end manufacturers (rated mostly for their full builds) from a source I trust and looked at some of their lower parts kits. One kit contains a couple of small upgrades over the other for much the same price.

My question: is one manuf. parts kit generally going to fit into another's stripped lower? Just for example -- DPMS kit into a CMMG lower?

Second question: is there groups of pins and springs (and other items) separated out so I don't have to get a full Lower parts kit? I already have the grip I want, but I'm having a hard time identifying exactly what else is in there. Also, there are "replacement" or "field" kits. I'm guessing these are the same thing.

Take it easy. What I've been called to my face has been worse that what has historically started international conflict. I don't allow someone the power over me to affect me simply by their speech.

DPMS parts kits is just a standard kit. It should fit any other mil spec lower.

I would suggest buying the LPK with the grip, Ultimately, it will be a lot easier to just put the extra in the parts drawer than finding all the separate pins and springs.

I hate DPMS LPKs. Pins are oversized. RRA or Doublestar are better. I've put quite a few together so I'm speaking from experience.

Spike's got a complete upper for 350 through Arfcom.
You can find stripped lowers for 65, lower parts kits for 65, then add your buttstock of choice and you're home for about 500.

But then you'll need ammo and magazines (14-15/mag fordecent mags)

I'm still a bit in the dark on uppers. Already have the stripped lower (Noveske) and the parts kit (Daniel Defense) is on the way. I'll probably pick up the stock local so I can try them out and see what I want.

As far as uppers go, I want to stay with Noveske. Do I get the 14.x" and add the thing on the end to make it legal? Or do I just go with the 16" barrel (want to keep it an M4)?

I want the ability to eventually put a red dot on the rear sight (so no carry handle), but also want a rail for off hand handle attachments. What do you recommend?

2 years later and still building man?

I'm going with MEGA or VLTOR. I started building 2 months ago and I have my lower complete. I went with Mega for the Gator Grip. I can't decide if I want the matching upper, Billet finish, or with a VLTOR (they look awesome).

Internals, I'd go with a stainless steel, so when it starts getting used you won't loose the finish. Barrels, Novenske makes a mean barrel, but you have to pay up the butt for it. I'm going with Daniel Defense. Great quality, 30% less.

I really like my noveske barrel. The N4 barrels are neat cause there layer of chrome lining is twice as thick. The centurion barrels are vey close in quality but a lot easier to find and a little cheaper.

I would defiantly get a 16 in barrel. That allows you to change muzzle devices to find the right one for you.

When I built my AR it took about 2.3 years. But I used very high quality parts. Would I change some stuff? Not really except for the new Troy alpha rail and a failzero BCG maybe a better trigger but that is way low on my list.

The best thing to do is try to find out what you the gun to do for you as far as a plinker, long range, or KISS

If you just want to buy and not go through the build then Spikes Tactical is one of the very best built AR's and their prices are one of the lowest. $799.

I asked myself this question many times over the last few months and am very happy having gone with the 16". Especially on a rifle I built (worked on since Thanksgiving). I like NOT having an NFA cloud hanging over my head when I want to make changes/additions later on.
