I just signed up with SBC after a few years with Verizon. They said I could use the wireless router combo that Verizon provided in conjunction with the Siemens speedstream 4100 modem. How do I go about configuring my Westell 327W as my wireless router with this Siemens modem? The SBC tech support was useless, as expected. I am not sure if the Westell router is able to be bridged and if so, if that is the best route to choose. I appreciate any help walking me thru the appropriate steps.

I tried to change profile information for the Westell router on http://dslrouter/ but for some reason my username and password was not being recognized. Any other suggestions?

try a hard reset of the router, which may involve sticking a paperclip in a small hole for an extended period or three times in a row. your username and password will then revert to the defaults and all of the settings will be lost

I'm assuming this device (this Westell) functioned as a modem and a router. In that case, you probably cannot use it for routing or for firewall functions. It may still function as a hub/switch - which will allow you to connect more than one computer to it. Just run a cable from your new modem to one of the ports on the router and run another cable from a different port(on the router) to your computer.

If by chance you have hooked up your new router/modem to your p.c. already, you will need to unplug, and take out the batteries for 10 - 20 seconds as well. A lot of high speed modems will lock onto a mac address, so this could also present a problem.

Basically, the Westell is a modem/wireless router. I want to be able to use this instead of the modem that was sent by SBC. I am mainly looking for wireless cababilities for my work laptop. Also, I would like to have my home laptop hardwired into the modem/router. I don't need a complicated setup at home.

What is the default username and password for the Westell?

Got it. I was able to get in with admin and password.

I was able to get internet access while wired into the Westell while the Siemens was not connected or turned on in any way. I could not get connected wirelessly although I was getting an excellent signal. Now, I am back on the Siemens modem as I was not getting a connection while wired into the Westell. I am about to give up because I am thoroughly confused.
