• God of War: See note above... about to be another HUGE flop for Sony in 4 months.

If you want the TLDR/non polite way of explaining it... there are too many women/beta males/lesbians/******'s trying to make games for an audience that is mostly testosterone driven males. It's an absolutely terrible business model!

It's pretty damn funny to be honest. Piracy is not a pricing issue but a service issue. These independent coders are showing that the console manufacturers are absolutely awful at providing a good service as they run laps around them providing things that the consoler manufacturers have claimed is impossible.

Every single playstation has eventually gotten jailbroken. It's only a matter of time. Doesn't matter though - because if you want to play online or buy new software that can't be run on old firmware like GTA6 you'll have to upgrade your firmware less you get banned.

Helldivers 2 has generated more money (literally billions in revenue) that more than offsets any failures in Live Service. It's very much a VC style strategy (few massive winners, lots of losers).

They've had plenty of quality software. They won GOTY in 2024 and tend to have a candidate most years in many prominent categories. Each year they have multiple exclusive series that are well received and sell extremely well.

God of War is about to be a huge flop? You're totally disconnected from reality. It has a ton of pre orders on the Playstation store already and was outselling GTA6 when it went live for a little while. Huge numbers. Where is the outrage for female protagonists when Resident Evil does it? There's nothing wrong with the main character in Yotei or God of War.

Some of yall have really let the culture wars rot your mind when it comes to gaming. Hammers looking for nails.

You are spot on with this, but these are problems with the gaming industry at large (other than Nintendo), not just Sony.

Gaming industry totally went woke. So bizarre in their marketing and business model.

Dude, you don't know what you are talking about when people get upset over female protagonists. No one hates a game just because the protagonist is a female.
They hate it when:

1. They give the female protagonist an ugly character design. Most of the time they use a hot actress for the model, yet make the game design of that character ugly. Model is a 10. The character is a 5 at most. This is what happens when you get a lot of woman who are 5's and below too heavily involved in video games. Ugly women really dislike beautiful woman. Especially ugly lesbian women. These people are all about Girl Power and Pride Power.

You can compare female characters designed by eastern developers over western developers. Female characters from eastern developers are hot. Female characters from western developers look very mid at best. Guys didn't hate Grace in Resident Evil Requiem. She is hot/cute. Guys hate GoW Laufey because the character design based off of Deborah Ann Woll look like a washed up hag. They purposely made her ugly. Why use a hot model if you are going to make them ugly. The character is a goddess. Has anyone ever told an ugly ass woman a goddess, unless they were drunk and looking for a slump buster?

Look at games like Steller Blade or the Tomb Raider series or FFVII. Did you hear any guys complain that these are woke or hated the female characters?

2. They make the female characters girl bosses. They make sure to put these female characters in situations to put men in their places and treat them like a dad on a sitcom tv show. The woman has to come in and save the dumb, incompetent , sexist, racist men. Does Steller Blade, Tomb Raider or FFVII do that? Grace in Requiem isn't like that. Not sure of GOW Laufey will be like that, but the signs are all there, especially because of number one above. Then they waste money paying Jack Quaid to do motion capture of a freaking square jello like thing.

Video games are fantasy to escape real life for a time period. Men are the biggest consumer of these type of games. Not women. I don't care if they say woman play more games these days. They are counting mobile games like candy crush. Even one of the creators of the God of War, David Jaffe, said this game is going to suck. He even has blasted the main person in control of this game...she is like a 3, old, and my guess is a lesbian. How does someone like that know what men want? God of War's number one base is men, not women. Men don't put ugly lesbian girl bosses in their fantasies. David Jaffe is as liberal as can be and I hardly ever agree with him on anything, but he knows what his customer base wants.

Gamers have NEVER had an issue with female protagonists in games. Hell, i'm about 50/50, male or female character model, in the RPG's I play. I can't site the study, but I remember seeing some metric that showed a huge number of male gamers choose female character models.

The issue is making characters ugly or pushing...



Gamers tend to reject this crap. The majority of console and PC gamers are male. Men just want to play a fun game and get lost in the fantasy, not be preached at or told that men are horrible.

I don't find either the main protagonist in GoW Laufey or Yotei to be ugly. They're not specifically designed to be overtly attractive given the context of the games. In Laufey, the character model is pretty representative of the actress herself not dolled up with makeup, which makes sense in the context of someone that just died and is a warrior goddess.

The idea that all games need absolute Gooner Bait like Stellar Blade or Tomb Raider is laughable and pathetic. I have no problem with those games either, but they shouldn't be the universal form developers go with the medium. And the fact that people are crying over this shows a severe lack of maturity for what I'm guessing are mostly 30 to 50 something males that are on a crusade about something petty like this.

You're right, you guys are doing great as evidenced by the mass layoffs and success of your AAA titles.. Keep up the good work.

You are lying or delusional. The video game industry has absolutely been infiltrated and subverted from the inside out by far left trash. That's really not even an opinion. It's what happened. You can look at the group photos of the people who work at these studios and see the purple hair, nose rings, trannies, and soy face everywhere. The lack of straight, normal males is very striking, and that is the demographic that plays console and PC video games the most, by an overwhelming majority. The negative revenue, poor sales numbers, low player counts, and resulting layoffs are pervasive and speak for themselves. The evidence is irrefutable, and you're the one ignoring it.

This is Laura Fryer. She was involved with the original Gears of Wars games. She isn't a gooner. I would say she is mature. She feels the same as everyone else on this thread except for you.

To put the thread somewhat back on topic, another big FU to Sony happening today is the anyPS5 project.

It will eventually allow PS5 games to be ported over to PC and use native PC hardware to run them.

Sony has deservedly garnered a lot of flack from gamers recently. They have become increasingly anti-consumer, including deciding to no longer release ported PS5 games for PC, driving up the price of their console (they blamed tariffs at the time, but their actions since then suggest otherwise), and of course deciding to no longer offer physical media.

The most fascinating thing about this Sony fiasco is that it's part of a larger revolt against software companies in general. See Reverse Engineer Anything, for example. The big irony is a lot of these anti-corp projects are using AI to build them. Pretty hilarious that AI, which is being shoved down everyone's throats, is now being used to screw over software companies.

No one can own a PS5? No, Sony, you don't even own the PS5.

The layoff was about 26 people…10% of their workforce, which is common in between projects prior to going into full production. Doesn't mean their last game which generated $400M in revenue (more than the original adjusted for launch) was unsuccessful

There are some good games with female protagonists (Horizon comes to mind) but it's pretty damn fatiguing to have so many male franchises feel like they have to do a sequel with a female lead just to check a box.

Let's start doing female first franchises with male lead sequels and make it truly equal. Start the movement!

The Tomb Raider reboot games (particularly Rise of the Tomb Raider) were excellent. Easily in my top 10 of modern AAA action games. Fantastic games!
