Haha this was my thought too. I have a few default "turn it off immediately" settings I go find in games though. Bloom, motion blur, depth of field, and film grain. There are some titles and specific genres where one of those settings might make some sense but I think most of the post-processing effects like that are complete garbage.

Most rigs these days can run WoW at all high settings, but there's often no need to unless you're cold and you want your GPU to be an expensive space heater. There are definitely some things you want to turn down, and some you want to turn up. There's no reason to have a refresh higher than your monitor can handle, and I bump bloom down a bit. In a raid, the default beats the snot out of your GPU and makes a bright flashing acid trip on your screen. Many people these days might not need v sync either. I set via the console the ground density to 128 up from the default 48 as well as ground effect distance to 500 and fade to 370. It just looks better.

I run on 4k on my TV in the bedroom, I have the overall graphic slider set at 7 out of 10, any higher and it starts to get choppy for me. Maybe it would be different at 1080p.

Whoa. Now we know why they need so many data centers. Do they think player #s will be down, or has connectivity gotten that. Much better over the last ~15 years?

It's basically taking the old system of discrete servers where players can't interact in the world and condensing it into a ruleset server. There are still separate machines with players separated from each other, but you can jump from one machine (layer) to another when grouping with players on a different machine (layer).

So it's possible that you and another player could be standing in the exact same spot on the map and not see each other. Not see the same other players. Not see the same monsters spawned. Then you group up and they drag players onto a single layer so you can play together.

Also you have to choose a faction when you choose a ruleset.

No cross-faction characters on the same ruleset.
