All the games have mods, but I'm assuming you mean DLC, because you mentioned both for FO4. Those probably stood out most because the base game's quests were a shell of what the other games had. The main quests and side quests for FO3 and FO:NV are vastly superior to the base game of FO4.

No settlement building in those games, unless there's some mod I don't know about.

Honestly, there's no wrong decision. But the majority of the fanbase considers FO:NV the superior game. Or you can start with FO3 and then follow that up with New Vegas, to play in chronological order.

I didn't know the other Fall Out games had mods. I know using mods is sort of cheating. I enjoy maxing out on ammo and just going full psycho. It's the little things in life. Had thought about playing 76, till I learned it was online only. Not a fan of online play unless it's GTA or Red Dead. All other games I play story line only.

76 is single player but you do have to play it online. You don't have to play multiplayer if that's what you mean.

I also don't think there is a wrong answer but I also never really modded any of them.

I am recalling one issue I had with FO3 (which may have been patched at this point) where you could max your experience somewhat early in game and then any quests you complete thereafter award you nothing, if that is important to you. I actually never finished the game because of that because the story didn't grip me enough to keep going.

Ahh, ok. You'll have to research if mods are supported on either game on Xbox. I don't know if they are.

Did a quick google search, no mods for Vegas or 3 on xbox. Oh well, I'll still play them. I bought the games cheap when xbox had a sale a few weeks back.
My demon woke me up this morning and said bruh, I'm tired... So I handed him a Red Bull and said come on little buddy, we got bridges to burn and chaos to spread.

Not all mods are 'cheating'. Sure, there are plenty that give you unlimited ammo or really powerful weapons, but there are infinitely more that improve the scenery or have QoL improvements like better inventory management. Honestly, most mods are people saying "Great game, but it would have been better if they would have done THIS instead" and creating that.

Question for you Fallout fans

Have only ever played Fallout 4.

Fallout New Vegas, Fallout 3 and Fallout 76 which one would y'all recommend playing for the first time.

FNV. Or if your feeling adventurous, download the tale of two wastelands mod. It combines both FO3 and FNV into one game.

I have a hard time playing Skyrim or Fallout without mods. Some just help improve visuals on a 10/15 year old game. Others, like SimSettlements (FO4), add a whole new dynamic to gameplay. And Skyrim without SkyUI is just painful.

First, 3 for the atmosphere, because it's washington DC, and exploring that wasteland was very satisfying.

Second, NV for the quality of life updates and improved HUD/gunplay. The sense of scale kind of collapsed on me when I finally hit the "strip" and was somewhat underwhelmed, but it is still a 9.8/10 kind of game.

I think you would not like playing them backwards because NV would have so many features/QOL comforts that would be missing in FO3; and you might find that disappointing or frustrating.

No idea on FO76. Ive tried it several times over the years and with over 2kh total in FO3 and NV since they came out, never really hooked me. I've also tried to go back to FO1, FO2 and FO:BOS and they don't really translate. I think I would like them more if I would have played them when they came out, but I never did, though I was aware of them. Vidya games were expensive back then and I was more of a System Shock (Bioshock) / Deus Ex type PC / Everquest gamer in those days. I was aware of Fallout and how good it was from the PC Magazines, but never had the cash to play them. I dont see skipping them as a loss of gameplay/fun experience, but more of a miss of understanding the lore of the FO universe, but I dont much care about all of that, personally.

FO4 is a good edition, for sure, but didnt really hit the same as FO3 or FO:NV due to the decision trees and story (and by that I mean your actions, decisions, negotiations, or banditry didn't seem to mean much later on in the game like it did in the previous iterations), but to each their own. It is much better from a "what can I do" standpoint if you are a base builder; and Far Harbor is one of the best DLCs available for the entire series.

I suppose if they are committing to a "remake" of FO3 and NV, maybe wait for those, but if you cant, that would be my recommended order.

You can normally scoop up FO3 or FO:NV GOTY editions on steam for <$10 each during a steam sale. If you find yourself still interested at the time; take them on a lark and enjoy.
I attended Reagan's inauguration in 1981 and have voted republican since. The republicans have shot themselves in the foot this go-round.
