I'd like to put my gaming consoles in this cabinet under the tv but when I try they overheat. What would be a good solution to get air in there?

Would you be allowed to cut a hole on the top in the back and put an exhaust fan in there? Then when you play open the doors.

You're in a tough place there. A fan in an enclosed cabinet won't do you any good, you need a fan drawing cooler outside air somewhere, as well as an "exhaust" for warmer air to leave. With that cabinet sat against the fireplace to the side and a wall behind it, I don't think you can accomplish that.

I have my PC tower inside of a cabinet. On the side of the cabinet I have 2 PC fans pulling cooler air in and on the back I have 2 fans exhausting warmer air out. This picture isn't my setup, but it looks similar.

I've had similar thoughts for my consoles... Ultimately the cleanest solution for me was to just keep the doors open half way when I'm playing and it's enough for them to vent. Modern consoles are so dang quiet, one of the issues is finding quality fans to push enough air but also not be noisy.

But yeah, I definitely could have made a dual fan in/out solution work, it just didn't seem worth the cost, effort, or cutting my cabinets for.

Hole saw in the bottom, mount a fan intake there, small hole saw in top for exhaust. Use a little 12v pc fan. Easy peasy.

Hole saw in the back into the wall cavity. Hole behind the TV into the wall cavity. 3D print covers that make it not look redneck.

I would put some floor/baseboard vents along the bottom of the cabinet. Put some PC fans on one side blowing in and one side blowing out.

If you're handy with woodworking put a mesh cutout in the doors.

Noctua fans are the best for these types of applications if you're DIY. Extremely reliable and silent.
