So Nvidia had their press conference a few hours ago with some surprising news. Everyone knew they were going to release their 5000 series GPUs, but no one expected them to claim the $549 GTX 5070 will have performance that rivals the current $1500 GTX 4090.

They also just announced a new home and business computer line called Digits, which will feature their new Grace AI chip. This will be a small desktop computer capable of running huge AI workloads.

Already being called out for misleading claims.

I'm so tired of all this AI ****

Personally, I don't give a **** about the upscaling numbers. I want to see the raw performance at a native output for true comparisons.

Yep. And I'll never care about frame generation. I'm not playing games on PC that can deal with input lag or weird AI artifacts. Give us the raw performance comparisons instead of comparing with frame generation or DLSS on the 5070 vs no DLSS on the 4090. Useless comparisons.

5070 will be a fantastic deal imo. Scalpers are going to grab everything so i hope they produce a ton of cards and ruin them like Playstation did for the ps5 pro. Will likely upgrade my 3070 to a 5070 or 5060 depending on its specs when released.

Yeah I was planning to do a new rig but may just do a small refresh and this is a good idea.
El_duderino

Exactly. I just want to see benchmarks from gamers nexus and hardware unboxed for true performance.

Really interested in the 5070 benchmarks at that price... Could be time to upgrade my 3080

Maybe I can finally sell my old 1080ti and get a new card for my son.

Typical that I just got my new rig with a 4090 and then they immediately announce the next card will have same performance at less than half the price. ha!

Its a little deceptive but the comparison they gave is raw native 4090 vs 5070 upscale with ai/dlss 4 just to equal the fps. The 4090 with dlss should still way out perform it especially if it gets dlss 4 retroactively.

100%. I wouldn't expect the previous gen flagship to beat their low end of their mid tier in current. Especially Nvidia. Hopefully we'll see benchmarks in the next couple of weeks, I've seen some people already have reference cards so there is hope.

Edit: Also I'm tired of Nvidia cutting so much VRAM off the next tiers of cards. If the 5080 had 24GB of VRAM I'd be tempted, very tempted, to go up.

Same thought, but with my 5700XD it may not be worth it without a new motherboard and processor too. At that point I'm really just building a new computer. Not sure how I'll spin that to the wife.

a 5700X3D? should plenty of power to not bottleneck a 5070 at 1440 and above.

I have a Ryzen 7 5800X3D, not sure if it's worth going new build or just upgrading my 3070ti to a 5070 or 5080.

Should be good, if I am.

It will last for this upgrade, especially at 4k. there were very few instances of the 5800x3d actually bottlenecking a 4090 at 4k I would not anticipate it being a problem even with a 5080, or at least a big enough one to matter.

I am not personally planning on upgrading my 5800X3D this go round. if i were getting a 5090 that would be a different story.

Upgrade should last another generation tbh. Im in same boat with the 5700x3d. It should not have any issues driving my 1440p 166hrz monitor with a 5070. I would not be surprised if it even holds up to 4k as the gpu takes the majority of the strain.

I'm rocking a 2080 super still, so I think I'm upgrading no matter what this gen. I'll determine which card I get once I see raw comparisons, though. Not these inflated numbers.

These 5080 reviews are making me think the 5070 is going to be garbage and thats why they haven't released anything about them yet performance wise.

El_duderino
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I think we all saw that coming a mile away.

5090 is a 4090 ti (23% increase on average in 4k, but 33% price increase, so bad price to performance)

5080 is essentially a 4080 super duper ti or 7900xtx on the AMD side.

No telling what the 5070 will be. Oh and good luck finding them at msrp
WGann3

Yeah these benchmarks are not impressive at all. If I had a 40 series I wouldn't even think about upgrading but I've got a 3080 10GB so I'm still tempted to grab a 5080 or 5070ti (when it launches) if I get lucky and find one at msrp.

I'm planning my first PC build in almost 20 years…currently using a laptop now that's on its last leg.

I'd like to get back into some PC gaming, just don't know if I should wait and get a 5070 TI? Would this be the best bang for my buck that will last a few years? If I can't get it for MSRP though, I might look at older generations. I haven't followed the GPU market in a long time and it's insane…

And it was a paper launch as expected.

Micro center allocated 233 total 5090 cards across all of their stores

Yeah, what a letdown. I was in Best Buy in CS yesterday and asked them how many they got. They said they received zero of either of them.

Im beginning wonder how much of the 9070xt **** show wasn't from AMD getting nervous about this generation but rather to bide time for this generation of Nvidia cards to be poorly received.

Folks were excited about 5070 = 4090 but as the reviews and low stock have come out it seems sentiment has completely changed. Im guessing, based on specs, the 5070ti and 5070 won't review well either.

If AMD can eek out 4080ish performance for $650 and actually have a product on the shelf they may just make a splash this go around. Im actually considering one now given that EVGA is gone.

This is infuriating. 5070 not being default 16gb but they plan on offering the 5060ti at 16gb? What the absolute **** nvidia....

The 5060 should be baseline 12gb, 5070 16gb.

I was very intrigued by 5070 = 4090 and maybe pushing a refresh up to the 5070 TI but the performance reviews on the 5080 have not been great. The bricking from drivers and now having the plugs melting (again) is a huge turn off. I'm now looking at how the 9070 xt does. If this card comes in around $500-600 with solid performance Nvidia might actually have some issues at the midline cards. Not that they care.

And it's ridiculous the difference in cost between 12 and 16 is negligible. Infuriating.
