I guess this came out back in 2017, but I totally missed it. I'm not a fan of complex modern games and FPS bore me. My first console was a 2600 and my favorite computer of all time was the Commodore 64. IMO better graphics don't necessarily mean a better game.

I found Thimbleweed Park yesterday and I'm absolutely loving it. It's late a 1980s/early 1990s point and click adventure.

For reference my favorite game of all time was Zak McKraken and the Alien Mindbenders (yes C-64). I believe the same people that worked on that and Maniac Mansion worked on this. It's the same gameplay, but with a lot more.

I think it's on most platforms but I got it on iOS. It's flawless.

This is as esoteric as it gets from a gaming perspective.

It wasn't my intention to be the Redstone of Nerdery, but it really is what I like. And if I wasn't clear in the OP, the game is from 2017 and is a modern revisiting of those types of games. References to SCUMMLucasarts games (Maniac Mansion, Zak McKraken) and Sierra (Kings Quest, the other quests and Leisure Suit Larry).

In the point & click vein (though not quite like Thimbleweed Park, and definitely not as big on the meta commentary), I enjoyed Unavowed. It's a paranormal adventure set in New York, and only like $6 on Steam.

Newest monkey island was fun to play and wrap up the series. Definitely worth playing all of them if you have not.

I played this back in 2018 and had a lot of fun playing it. I forgot how difficult it was to play these games. They were not always intuitive. I especially like the multi-character control aspect. I never finished. I probably should at some point.
