The storage aspect of the service is nothing compared to the content rights.
I would have to assume that YTTV is using deduplication of some sort to avoid storing multiple copies of the same recording.Caesar4 said:
I'm not too surprised that YTTV has raised prices, because of their unlimited DVR feature. I believe that nearly every program/movie/etc on every channel is being recorded because someone, somewhere has decided that they want to record it.
For example, maybe hard to believe, but I used to know people who recorded Home Shopping Club. So, I believe, considering everyone across the US, everything is being recorded. As new programs are created and new channels are added, storage/delivery costs explode.
I know some recordings expire, because they have for me, but the recording availability duration is pretty long and generous.
I suspect that YTTV may start enforcing their recording availability duration and/or making unlimited DVR as a pay feature.

We are probably outliers but we record nothing. I don't understand why people record everything when stuff is essentially on demand in this new world. And I bet you 90% of what is recorded is never watched by people recording it.

Now that sports are being streamed live on peacock/paramount we are going to play with cancelling YTTV and doing different streaming apps- specifically max, netflix, fox nation, paramount+, apple, peacock.

Once ESPN offers their stand alone service or that content on streaming, the last piece will be Fox, which was going to be the appeal of the Venu service.
We have the rabbit ears up to get Fox now and I'm at the point that I'm fine not having ESPN during the non-football months. At this moment we have:
Disney+ and Hulu - just over $4 (Black Friday)
Netflix - $8
Apple TV+ - free (for 3 months)
Paramount+ - free (for 3 months)
Peacock - free (with Internet)
Max - $4 (Black Friday)
Starz - $1 (Black Friday)
Prime - about $13 month, but the shopping is the costlier part
FanDuel/Bally's Sports - $20
Spotify Family - $22
All those streaming services come out to about $50/month, and that is a lot cheaper than any services that involves ESPN. People who don't care about sports are much better off without cable/sat setups.
*I do have a note to myself to cancel several of those services in October so I can pick them up again if they offer a Black Friday deal.
Side note: If my family had to choose only 1 of those to pay for, they would choose Spotify, followed by Netflix.

Yeah fox seems to be a problem. I ordered a cheap $20 antenna via drone delivery but it didn't pick up fox from Aggieland so I have a 1600 mile antenna coming in a few days to try and cover fox exclusive events.
There really needs to be an anti-trust suit against Disney for streaming. They own almost all of it now.AtticusMatlock said:
FYI, the Venu concept has been canceled.
And Disney has purchased Fubo. F this.
