Current TV: Un55ju640dfxza (upgrading soon)
Device: Roku Ultra
Receiver: Sony STR-DH550

When using HDMi from Roku to receiver then to the TV the TV shows 1920x1080 / 60 on start up. Some apps like Disney Plus won't allow me to watch their 4k content, only "HD"

If into straight from the Roku to the TV I see 3840x2160 / 60p and then can watch Ant Man in "4k Ultra HD"

I've tried multiple HDMI cables and both give me the upgraded display when going straight to the TV

Any ideas?

The main reason I like this setup is the ARC so that when I hit power on the Roku it'll turn on both the TV and receiver, and then control the receiver volume directly. Is this possible if I do optical out?

TV is mounted on the wall and power/1 HDMI to the receiver comes through the wall.

That's an older receiver and I don't think it supports hdcp 2.2. You would either need a newer receiver or maybe a device like an HDFury.

Sounds like a HDCP issue. Roku Ultra requires HDCP 2.2 for 4K output.

However, multiple pages that pop up when searching "STR-DH550 HDCP" Indicate that model does not support 2.2, although there is no such mention of this that I could find in the specifications.

Dang, bummer. I could use optical out to the receiver but really like how well ARC works with volume control and turning devices on/off

This a good option if I decide to replace the receiver?

Seems like that one would be fine

Is there any downgrade in quality going through the receiver vs just directly to the TV?

Awaiting a new LG OLED and don't want to bottleneck it

This one only supports 60hz

I think I'm going to adjust my setup and run 3 HDMIs to the TV then one HDMI Arc back to the receiver

I had a similar issue with an older receiver. Ended up plugging my 4K Apple TV directly into the TV for best picture, then using the ARC port from the TV to the receiver for best sound.

Yeah that's what am doing. I did not realize the cable went from the HDMI OUT of the receiver to the HDMI/ARC IN of the TV. That was pretty confusing.

I'm going to run some new HDMI cables from my devices to the TV and use the original HDMI cable in the Arc back to the receiver
