My 6 (soon to be 7 year old) has a digital camera that she takes pictures and videos with. She enjoys it.

And she'll view them on the device, but doesn't have the means to pull them down to another device more equipped to view or even edit them. I'll pull them down to my hard drive to back them up and free up space, but that's about it. I didn't think about this shortcoming when I initially gave her the camera.

I'm thinking about getting her something better equipped for this and have come to the ipod touch as a possible solution. Do any of yall have experience here? Is the iPod Touch the optimal option or is there something better out there?

Would an iPad be better? You can get a refurbished 7th gen iPad pretty cheap (oldest model that will still update to latest OS).

That's what I did, I gave my 8 year old an iPad, defined how she can use it. Put on family controls and then she uses it to take pictures and create videos with her friends all the time. It's controlled, I have access to it all and she can edit everything all she wants afterwards (which she does). Also helps me start putting in mental safeguards for her to think about for when she gets a phone (in hopefully the very distant future).

Yeah, I'd thought about that. But they're just so big to lug around in certain situations.

My kids love it. It is a little cheap/low resolution, but does Green Screen effects in cameras and my kids still use it to make little videos and send to the grandparents/cousins.

My kids are 10 and 12 now and still have fun with it.

Not the best camera, but will be a lot of fun and easy to use for them.
