How long do you want to ignore this user?

My son is wanting a streaming setup for his gaming computer. Would appreciate some advice on what equipment he needs and any recommendations. I have looked online, but get different answers from different sites. This is new to me since we never streamed from our Atari 2600. Thanks in advance.

I am sure I am leaving out some details that would help, so please ask. Thanks.

Streaming Software (free) - https://obsproject.com/

Microphone (good one on sale) - https://a.co/d/75zAJPo
Also the 'frequently bought together' options for this mic on Amazon are good if it's what you're looking for.

Webcam is up to your discretion, would also get a second monitor if you don't have one.

I did do a bunch of streaming but had to back off due to more work requirements and family time making it hard to keep a schedule. Most webcams will be fine. 1080 and 4k are both fine. If you're using just a 1 computer set up (you will be to start) then 1080p is better/more stable.

I also you a Stream Deck for my Streaming controls here is a good starter one:

That integrates with OBS so is pretty easy to set up.

Things to think about later on if this is a project to work on together:

Overlays, there are lots of them but some free ones here:

Lights (ask about it later), in ear monitors, audio mixing etc. For casual use go with the webcam, the mic and the software. Once you go down that path there are lots of good stuff. Also hop on Discord there are a number of good streaming education servers out there.

Are you near BCS? I have a boom arm and xlr/usb dynamic microphone that I could part with for only $40. Very lightly used and a good setup for someone new to streaming without breaking the bank. He could use it via usb until getting far enough along to spring for an xlr interface.

Dynamic is the way to go for streaming as it doesn't pick up the background noise that condenser mics do

Edit to add: I have a Logitech c920 webcam that I used maybe 5 times that I could throw in as well.
