I have been having trouble finding a switch or switch/docking station that will work with my setup.

- 2 monitors
- Gaming PC with one HDMI 2.1 and 3 Display Port 1.4a outports. Currently use the HDMI for my best 4K monitor, and one DP for the other.
- Work laptop with one HDMI port and 2 USB 3.0 and 2 USB-C 3.0
- Currently using a docking station for the laptop to feed to my two monitors.
- Also, need a USB-C 3.0 for my keyboard and a USB 3.0 for my mouse.

I thought I found the perfect solution with an Anker switch/docking station, but it wasn't compatible with HDMI 2.1 and DP 1.4a, and didn't have a USB-C

Most switches I have found only have 2 HDMI 2.1 ports or 2 DP 1.4a ports, not one of each. I prefer using the HDMI for my best monitor.

I would prefer the switch/docking station as a solution, since that would be less cables needed. I don't care for quality for the work laptop. Or should I just go with using a DP with it?

Just getting tired of unplugging my mouse and keyboard between the two.

Anyone have any good suggestions?

I looked for something similar awhile back, and decided against it for cost reasons. I ended up getting a USB hub for my peripherals (keyboard/mouse/webcam/headset), and then taking a couple USB extension cables and routing them from my laptop dock and PC to a spot on my desk right next to the aforementioned hub).

When I want to switch, it's just a matter of switching one cable (that I can do easily while seated) and changing the monitor inputs. It takes 2-3 seconds tops.

It's a 90% solution that's pretty inexpensive. As far as cables on the desk, there's just the cables running from peripherals to the hub, and then the cable from the hub to the two extensions, which are almost entirely hidden.

I ditched two 24" monitors and got a 34" Ultrawide. Now, you just need a switch between two computers. and have the keyboard and mouse plugged into the KVM.

Works great.

I can switch between my docking station for work and my personal desktop (gaming) PC in <5 seconds.

A few thoughts and questions:

- How are you currently getting video out of the work laptop? Depending on hardware capabilities of the laptop, one of the USB-C ports might support a Thunderbolt or USB 3.0 dock (with video over DisplayLink protocol). If so, you might consider a cheap dock to at least get to a state where you have two DisplayPort connections and a single USB to run to a KVM switch for keyboard/mouse, etc.

- You say you prefer HDMI for your better monitor. Any particular reason for this? DisplayPort is generally considered to be a more "juiced up" protocol that supports higher bandwidth and a larger range of resolutions and refresh rates. Would greatly simplify things if you kept everything on one type of link.

- You shouldn't really "need" a USB-C connection for a mouse or any other low speed peripheral. If that becomes a limitation somewhere in the setup just get a cheap USB-C to USB-A adapter dongle and be done with it.

So my overall recommendation is:
Work laptop: Thunderbolt or USB3 dock that gets you two DP + USB to a dual monitor KVM switch.
Gaming PC: Two native DP outputs + USB to the same dual monitor KVM switch.

I think you're hitting a wall because of basically trying to find a combo laptop dock + KVM switch in one.... would be nice but might be a unicorn too far.
