Howdy, my Dish bill just hit $156 per month, just no longer worth it. We are old, 75's. Have Great Mesh Wifi, Orbi Router with two Satellites, Spectrum Internet at 500+ Mbps, New Roku. No problem streaming with the Wifi setup to the Roku.

Question 1. Is YouTube TV still the best?
Question 2. How quickly are the streaming packages increasing their prices?
Question 3. Anything, accessory thing, we need?

Thanks!

I can't tell you if Youtube TV is still the best for certain because I haven't tried any of the others.

But I can say that I asked the same question a couple months ago, got lots of recommendations for YoutubeTV, and we are very very happy with it for $70/mo.

The ONLY thing we don't get so far that we've noticed is the History Channel, so kind of bummed to be missing the new season of Alone, but we'll stream it eventually.

If you want only "one" service - the "best" single service is to rotate through different ones every few months when you get bored with the content available on the one you have (Netflix, Prime, Max, Apple, etc)

Youtube.tv for me is more of a cable substitute for watching football and f1 races. I never use it to watch anything else.

If you have a TV with the ability to do streaming you might not need anything hardware wise. Otherwise an AppleTV or Roku would work (I like the AppleTV better).

Comes down to the channels you need. For example, my dad is still on Dish. I recommended he move to YouTubeTV, but he watches LivePD, and apparently the channel that is on is not available on YouTubeTV.

Need to always verify the channels.

Peacock carries on patrol live. They could get you tube TV and peacock cheaper than dish

I wouldn't get a channel type streaming service unless you want to watch sports. They're overpriced and clinging to ancient technology.

If you want Disney plus and Espn plus, it's handy to get a bundle with hulu live.

If you want to watch the Houston Astros or Rockets, YouTubeTV doesn't include their network (Space City Home Network). If that's not a concern, then just make sure the streaming service carries your "must haves" SECN, etc. YouTubeTV and Fubo seem to be most popular and will save you money over your current provider.
I am not the Six Million Dollar Man, but I might need that surgery. "We have the technology, we can rebuild him!"

For live TV and especially sports, YTTV is superior to Hulu Live from a user experience perspective and it's frankly not close. I just switched back to YouTube TV from Hulu Live. It's also ever so slightly cheaper*.

And, by the way, the Hulu bundle doesn't get you a discount on ESPN and/or Disney. You can get YTTV and then get ESPN+ and Disney+ a la carte and it's actually cheaper than the Hulu bundle.

I built out a spreadsheet to map all the costs out with various add on services before I switched back.

*The only advantage with Hulu is that that their library of old content gets included with Hulu Live. That might appeal to you; it did not appeal to us and was not a factor. It also completely junks up the Hulu interface and makes it a nightmare to navigate and find stuff you are actually wanting to watch. I absolutely abhor their interface because of it.

As others said, if you watch an esoteric channel on DISH you will want to confirm if one of these other services carries it.

DirecTV streaming with a set top box with the choice package is best imo. Includes great channel selections and you get Astros/Rangers included. Has full remote and works just like you would be used to with dish. Their cheapest package doesn't include Astros/Rangers so you can cut the bill a bit by not geting them or only bumping your package during the season. The offer really cheap addon packages for tons of movie channels and such if the misses likes those too. It is sappy Christmas movie season after all.

Example set top box.

This is what we have. Can recommend. Like it MUCH better than the other options. We have two of the boxes (you buy them separately) then use the app for some of the other tvs (guest rooms, patio, travel, etc)

Are there specific channels you have to have, particular sports teams you want to be able to watch, or specific shows? For myself, the only things I watch on live TV are college football and Astros, so that limits which services will work significantly.

If you're an Amazon Prime member check out their streaming service.

There are also a slew of free options.

My Samsung TV even has a Samsung streaming option that has a lot of content, a lot of History channel shows for the poster that mentioned that.

And from my experience these streaming services are very simple to cancel. So try one for a month or two and if you don't like it, move to another one.
