I have a 150ft Ethernet cable running through underground conduit out to my shop behind my house to a WiFi modem. I am no longer getting any data through to that modem. Can I use one of the cheap Ethernet cable testers on Amazon to make sure this cable is still good?

The cheap one is a place to start. If you have RJ-45s on each end, it will at least tell you if there is continuity in each wire. The more expensive ones will tell you where the break is, but you will probably need to pull a new cable anyway if you have a break in the wire instead of just a bad cable end.

Test the wifi modem inside house first with a shorter new cable, if it fires up, you know its your cable, if it doesn't, grab a new wifi modem instead. You can probably pick up a new 150ft cat5e cable for about the price of a decent testing unit so no real need for one if you just do the isolated test first.

If the cable ends up testing bad, see if you or someone else can change the ends first. It's super fast and cheap and could save you a ton of time and money if it ends up that it was a connector.
