Problem with Speed of Laptop

I shut down my laptop computer (HP) to recharge it with a new universal charger.

When I turned it back on I all of a sudden am dealing with a very slow speed. Taking forever for my screen to up, when I click on any icon, etc.

Under windows security I have a warning symbol stating Memory Integrity is off. When I attempt to turn it on, it states that I have a problem with incompatible drivers.

Could this be causing the slower speed?

Things to consider...

1. Malware (install malwarebytes for free, run scan). Free version lets you scan anything, and registering makes it 24/7 a running protective agent. You care about the former right now, not the latter.

2. HD full, thus swap-file suffering large

3. Something in your 'startup' options is wack, check those and disable stuff you don't HAVE to have pre-loaded (which is most things).

4. HD Errors - if you're HD is going bad, has sector issues or such, this is a symptom of that. Run a hard drive checker.

Thanks for your response.

I have run a full McAfee scan and it found zero threats.

One item that I have just discovered is that my computer appears to run much faster when I disconnect it from the universal charger. The charger is a 65 watt. The stock charger was a 40 watt. Could the charger be the issue?

Why are you using a 3rd party charger? I've always found many 3rd party chargers to be cheap and never work as well as the charger that comes from the manufacturer, unless it's some high-end item.

ETA: Also, troubleshooting 101... if removing something fixes the problem, then that which you removed is likely the culprit. There is no one that is going to be able to provide you an exact solution without going through several steps to find the culprit. There are always 'likely' culprits for certain issues, but ultimately it's about systematically removing potential issues or configurations until the solution presents itself.

1. McAfee is bloatware crap, and could totally be your issue. I insta-deinstall it on everything I touch.

2. That's really weird about the charger, and yes, could somehow be weirdly related.

... the tips I gave you, take just a couple of mins and are harmless good things to try...
