My Gmail signature images were an A&M logo and a cotton boll with embedded links to the BAEN Dept abs Cotton Inc. ensures. I was glancing over a few sent emails and BOTH images were converted to a Ukrainian Flag that says "No War" WTF?! When I click on either flag the embedded links still go to the appropriate websites.

This is some spooky stuff right here I've been searching online for similar instances and haven't found anyone complaining about altered signature images on gmail accounts

I don't have anything relevant to your questions - interesting problem, though, and will follow.

Just be aware that you can read your name (grayed at the top of the image)

Where do the images source from?

I don't remember where I sourced the images from there were just two random images I found online and used those urls
It's wild the embedded urls were the same but the actual images were converted

You're using the host's bandwidth when you repurpose their URLs and they can redirect those links to whatever they want.

Then you are lucky you havent been porn blasting people with your sig.

I used to mess with people who would embed our images directly by swapping them with porn. They learned real quick.

This.

Does gmail not let you upload your own image for a signature? You shouldn't use a link to a random image because as you've found out you're at the whim of whoever controls that resource.

I'm aware of that….NOW! lol
Is just wild that BOTH images from two random places had the same image.
I'll have to pull up the code from my desktop and see where I actually got them.
I came to the right place to get the answer I guess I couldn't see the forest through the trees.
Gmail will not let you upload an image from a file for use on a signature. Maybe I used an image hosting site and they changed everything to the Ukrainian flag.
Lesson learned. My conspiracy riddled brain was under the impression I was getting hacked….
Yes I do have an engineering degree from A&M….. but I crammed 4 years into 6. My mortar board said ">2.0 N GO"

Just need any server to host them. Not sure if dropbox allows it anymore but i used to create free ones when i wanted long term hosting. Google one drive allows images as well i think and you get some free storage with them.

They might both be ImageShack hosted images.
I ran across this earlier.

Also I tried to archive the page and they did not show up in the archive.
Opening the image in a new tab takes you to ImageShack's home page.

Any suggestions on a new email account? I started using gmail because I can set up a gmail account and funnel all of my work emails off the server…which allows me to permanently keep work related correspondence on a private account.
Trust me I'm all in on getting away from google.
They do a really good job of eliminating spam…that's about it……

GinMan,

I just now had the same thing happen to me, only the logo in my signature is one I created and did not find on line. It looks like this happened to you in March. I think it is very weird that I could not find any other issues on line besides your complaint. I don't have any affiliation with TexAgs, although I did have to sign up just to be able to reply to your message.

What happened to me was an old customer reached out to us through an old email thread and the logos in the old thread were changed to the Ukraine flag with "NO WAR" on it, the weird thing is the old threads were from 2016 when there was no war then.

Have you found out why this happened to you?? Just so curious. It seems like either the customer who replied to our old email was hacked or somehow gmail was hacked. (His email came from Hotmail, so maybe it was corrupted before it reached us.

Any information would be great.

Nope, likely no one was "hacked".
If an image is linked in an email signature, it can be changed at any time. That's the danger of embedding an image via a link and not directly attaching it.
