Does anyone have a recommendation for a good home printer that has a low cost way to refill the ink? Getting a little tired of throwing away money on the cheap HP printer I have. And, that's buying knock off cartridges on Amazon. Thanks in advance.

Epson Ecotank. It ain't cheap up front but buying generic ink for it afterwards is cheap.

Lots of places have them on sale for 20% off right now too.

Staples and officedepot as well have similar models on sale at 199.

I second the Epson Ecotank. The ink seems to last forever.

With my prior printer (I think it was Canon), seemed like I was pretty frequently making trips to the store on a weeknight to buy a new "pack" of cartridges just because 1 or 2 of them were empty and someone needed to print for a school project. I usually wound up with multiple unused cartridges for the less-frequently-used base colors.

One additional comment, when I bought it, through Costco, it came with extra ink bottles and Costco frequently had ~$100 discounts (every 3-4 months) on the Ecotank.

You are playing the game incorrectly. You're supposed to buy a new printer every black friday for cheaper than the replacement cartridges cost and toss the old one. Same thing with those little label makers. Force manufacturers to eat the cost of the entire printer instead of making 10,000% profit on an ink cartridge.

If you don't have to have color I recommend the brother monochrome printer. I've been really happy with the machine and the cost to operate.

I don't know how the printer market is now, but 5 years ago Brother was the printer to get. I've had the same Brother printer for 6 years. I buy Kingway cartridges on Amazon for $20 which gets you 3 sets of colors with blacks and an extra set of blacks. I barely print and usually have to buy a set every two years.

Printer ink is a scam. Buy knock offs! You'll save $100s of dollars.

The last time i bought a printer, I started by shopping ink prices. Brother was far and away the cheapest, especially for knock offs. So I bought a Brother and never looked back.

The ink pack I buy has 2 of each color plus 4 blacks for $17.
