What's your price range?

I feel like for an outdoor TV you want to focus on brightness (nits), nonreflective screen, and viewing angle - counterbalanced by the fact that it's outside and will likely fail in 3-5 years so you don't want to break the bank.

Off the top, I'd suggest sticking with Vizio and going with their P Quantum X 2020 since it gets ridiculously bright.

I would say buy the cheapest decent brand (TCL have been good for me) in a big size and go.

There used to be a huge jump in price from 65" to the next size up. Haven't looked in a while to see where that line is now.

I compared screen brightness on rtings.com and tried to find the balance of brightest and cheapest. Ended up with a 65" 6 series TCL.

Hit Walmart on their Black Friday sales. Basically can walk out with a free tv.

We went with a TCL from Costco and then bought the extended warranty, which we never do. It went bad after a couple of years (still under the extended warranty). I just had to take a video of the tv not turning on. I took the TV down, and brought it inside just in case they balked because it was outside. I took the video, uploaded it to them, and then they overnighted a new TV to me. Normally I don't believe in extended warranties, but for outdoor TVs, I definitely think going with a cheap TV and a warranty. Even without the warranty I could probably replace mine 5 times before I reach the price of a true outdoor TV.

I can get a sunbeam outdoor tv at a somewhat reasonable price... its still significantly more expensive than a visio but it should cut out the whole replace it annually thing... let me know and I can help

My TV has been outside (under a covered patio) for 3 years now, no issues. And it was already 3 years old when I put it out there.

If it's not directly in the weather getting rained on, paying for the outdoor TV is a waste of money.

We buy the biggest TCL Roku the space will accommodate from sam's and replace it every few years when the weather finally ruins it. Going on year 5 of ours that is under a patio but outside. When not in use we do cover it with a cover https://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-Outdoor-TV-Cover-inches/dp/B079YC69ZG

The tcl roku r635 gets up to 700 bits in hdr, which should be great for your application. That brightness rating is top end for indoor TVs and is about the same as the furrion partial sun outdoor tv. It's not as cheap as a low end tcl, but a 65" is still only at $1k. A great value buy.

Any concern with mounting a bigger TV and the angle may be reduced you can turn with the larger TV?

I like the brightness on the vizios. Just got one for my dad on his outside patio.

So, I have an older Visio outside, under the porch. It was our bedroom tv at our old house. Looking for something to replace it, definitely bigger, and need something brighter to watch Aggie games that I don't go to from my pool. Any suggestions? I figured this one would last a year or two outside, and it's lasted 3. Not really looking for an "outside" tv, because I don't want to spend $5k- $6k...

How do you go to Aggie games from your pool? j/k

May be a dumb question, but I'm in a similar situation. With the brighter TCL 6 series, do you all just keep it on the brightest setting at all times, even at night?

He has connections with suppliers and can probably get it at that price for people here. He has been doing it as a side gig for TexAgs posters.

I'm not sure how the latest SunBriteTVs are, but the top of the line one claims 1000 nits. I cannot find a review to confirm that, but it puts it right at TCL 6 brightness levels.

Ah. Ok.

Because last time I walked into store and looked at a SunBrite it was a Grandpa Simpson gif moment.

I'd also check out the new Hisense U8G. It claims 1500 nits. I saw one review got 2,100 nits in HDR and 700 in SDR.

Here's a list of the brightest TV's. I'd sort it with SDR brightness if this is a football tv as #1 priority.

I was watching my outdoor TV last night and saw this happen. Nothing hit the screen. It started out as a very small distorted pixel area and spread into a crack like this over night. The Costco warranty does not cover cracked screens. Any way this could have been caused by something not hitting the screen?

Looks like an impact. Did you mow recently?.

It's possible it could be stress from heat or something but that looks like some hit it.

I think you may be on to something with the heat. Could be a screw or bracket inside that was already tight and the expansion impacted the screen from behind.

Is that anywhere in the same location as the VESA mounting screws on the back?

I have a Samsung QLED that I use on the back patio. Has worked out well for me.

The TV is up in the corner of the gazebo and it's protected on both sides. All of the backyard grass is behind the TV. Mowing couldn't have caused it.

I don't see how anyone would believe me that this is not the result of an impact. I don't know what the impact was but I'm going to suck it up and just buy another TV. These are the cheapest 55"-58" that Costco sells. That's the size that fits my outdoor spot the best.

I had a discussion with a couple of guys who were out at the house to work on the home theater setup.

Purely anecdotal, but in their experience the Samsungs seem to be easier to view (whether that's brightness or just how the screen is designed - I have no researched) and that on average they held up better than other brands.

And agree on that no one would consider that anything other than a front impact. Is the are rough to the touch? If impact, you should be able to see the exact area where it was impacted.

That's what's odd. There's no chip or rough spots. You can feel the crack barely, but it's a smooth surface all around the area except for the crack line. It's almost like the crack started from inside the screen.

This was a Samsung TV and the viewing outside was very good versus the TCL I had before.

That's why I was curious about the mounting screws on the back. I nearly messed one up by using a bolt from garage that was longer than the depth of the threaded hole. Heard a pop then stopped.

Was thinking maybe either adjusting tv or temp change could have caused it.

This impact looking crack is at the bottom left of the screen. The only mounting screws on the back are in the center of the TV back.
