Looking for a cheap 75 inch tv. I am not a "high end" user. Don't even care about 4k. Will watch netflix and sports.

Any reason i shouldnt buy a $1000 samsung one from costco?

What's the difference between that $2K TV and a $1K tv?

I haven't bought a new tv in 12 years.

Why not 65" for sub $500?
It's nearly double to get to 75"

I've been eyeing a new 75" recently. Number one on my list is the TCL r617 (r615 at Best Buy, has a non voice remote). It's getting pretty high reviews and is on sale for $1300 right now. Then there's the Samsung RU7100 for $1200. That said you seem to only care about size so I'd recommend the TCL 4 series. That one in 75" flavor is on sale for $800 right now. It won't be able to get as bright or show as many colors as the more expensive ones I'm looking at though and that will be VERY noticeable, especially on Netflix HDR content.

I picked up the TCL 5 series a few months ago and am very happy. It had very good reviews from reputable sites, supports 4k gaming on Xbox one X, Dolby vision...

Do you have any specific use cases, like gaming? That can be a big deal right there. Do you hate the idea of smart tv? (Privacy concerns for convenience) do you use a lot of streaming services? TCL is a roku, so many streaming options built in without dongles...

Thanks for the recommendations. I will use it with amazon fire stick, recast, and netflix. Maybe youtube tv for live sports at some point. No gaming.

Whether is ts full array back lit (number of individual areas) vs edge lit, hdr or dolby vision or neither, etc...

I am now starting a search to replace a broken 55" vizio. I have had 3 vizio's and 2 of them have stopped working not too long after the warranty expired. I am staying away from vizio.

I have an 10 year old LG plasma that still works great. Never had an issue. Bought another LG 4K about 4 years ago - same deal. Looking to upgrade to a 65". I'm considering TCL, but will probably just go LG again because they've been so great for me.
I know a lot about a little, and a little about a lot.

I was in your same boat a couple months ago. I went with the Samsung. I think I paid 1200 for it. Seemed like good value for my family. I'm very happy with it. Just seemed like the extra cost for high end wasn't there for our situation. It's in my basement. We have enjoyed it a lot as a family.

Basics of choosing a new TV...

Use this site to narrow down the models.
https://www.rtings.com/

Use this site to find the owners thread for the display.
https://www.avsforum.com/forum/9-display-devices/

Sometimes there are issues that don't come up on rtings reviews that will show up in the owners thread. I also like going through the comments on rtings.

I snagged the TCL 75" 6 series on Amazon for $1125 this morning. Appears I caught a break though as it's back up to $1399 now.

I've had my eye on the TCL 6 Series as well. I keep waiting for it to get closer to $1000 but with football season here and the previous generations dropping to sub $800, it's getting hard to resist. Especially since we'll need to add a couch for the new upstairs living room.

As the cheapest TVs on the market, TCLs ain't bad at all. I've got a 43" 4K TV. The Roku remote is the best TV remote I've ever had. Big buttons, easy to press.

But what sets $1K - 2K TVs apart is I think Data mining. The reason Vizio was so cheap is because they were watching what you watch. I think TCL could be the same way cause of Roku is watching and partnered. Also TCL is a Chinese company and they've been able to control their production and make them real cheap.

On the technical side the more expensive TVs have to do with the Pixels (OLED, QLED, LED, LCD, etc). More expensive TVs have a better range of color, blacks, and brighter displays (nits).

In the market as well. Intrigued by the TCL 6-series and 4-series. I watch very little TV aside from background noise at night and football/golf.

The local Costco has this 70" Vizio E-series for $700. Seems like a good deal. Thoughts on this screen?

For a 75" TV, you should set it up for 4K.

The Vizio I have (which will be the last one I own) started throwing errors saying that the wifi had disconnected. This was pretty annoying when it appears in the middle of the screen while I'm playing an online video game...

Turns out, there is no way to make the TV disconnect from a wifi network once it is connected. You can switch, or you can reset the TV to factory specs, but you can't just disconnect it from the network.

I ended up MAC banning the TV from my wireless router.

I have the 75" LG and have been pretty happy with it for a sub $1k 4k TV at that size. I've had a 42" 1080 LG for several years that and never had a problem. The webOS is a little wonky, I think I'm going to add a Roku to it. One glaring omission to me is no ESPN app.

I think the TCL is also a good buy in that price range. Definitely get the 6 series over the 4 series for that size TV. I have a 49" 5 series and while checks all the boxes for a bedroom TV, I don't think I'd be happy with that for a media room type TV.

Never owned a Vizio, but the P-series that I've seen in the stores looked really good. Higher end TV, so you're going to sacrifice size or price there.
