Onkyo AV receiver repair

I have an Onkyo receiver that needs repair. Two of the HDMI ports no longer work and one of them is the main port to television. I have read that this is most likely a solder problem on the circuit board. Some people bake it in the oven and some use a hair dryer but these seem like temporary fixes to me. There is a repair place here in north Houston that is listed on the Onkyo web site but they have horrible Yelp reviews. I can buy a new comparable receiver for about $350.00 but if I can just have this one repaired for half that then that's what I'll do.
Any thoughts or suggestions?

If its just a solder issue, that's what a repair shop is probably going to try first anyway.

If they have some idea where the problem might be, it wouldn't take much to try reflowing the solder. It would be permanent if it worked.

Do you mean the baking method or some other way?

Contact onkyo. I had an issue 2 years ago with a then 6 year old receiver. They paid for shipping and repaired it for free.

If the solder is accessible, I would use a soldering iron to fix it. It's not a great idea to use an oven that you cook in for solder reflowing.

I wouldn't mind doing it myself if there is any kind of direction about what to look for.

What model is it? I've had a couple of issues with the HDMI line going to the TV but assumed the cable was the problem because it was kind of tight.

TX-NR515. I was curious about that so I purchased an HDMI cable tester and the cables tested good. Some while ago the HDMI port I had the Roku box connected to also quit and I tested that cable last night and it tested good.

My HT-RC360 had an issue where it stopped producing sound. At first I could cycle the power a few times and it would work. Eventually you could cycle it 25 - 30 times before it would work, then at the end no amount of cycling would produce sound.

This is a known problem with Onkyo receivers from a few years ago. It happened to the one I had about five or so years ago, literally within a few weeks of the warranty expiring. I contacted them, and they went ahead and repaired it at no charge. Well, I may have had to pay shipping to the facility near Houston. I would contact them and see if they will still repair it for free or close to it. If not, I would probably just get a new receiver.

That's the symptom with a bad HDMI port? Crap, that's what mine started doing. I moved it around a little in the media closet and it's been behaving like it should but I guess that might be a temporary fix.

Mine's a TX-NR757 from a little more than 2 years ago if it's one of the models that has a problem.
