I'm new to the podcast game so I wondered what would be some cool ones to listen to. So far all I have subscribed to is my old church's podcast from CS and the Dax Shepherd podcast where he and Gordon Keith from Sportsradio 1310 The Ticket are talking. I'm open to any topic be it Aggie sports, sports in general, entertainment, culture, religion, travel, I don't even know what all is out there. Thanks for any suggestions.
Claude!

There are a few other threads on this that give a ton of good suggestions. My go to podcasts are:

Conan O'Brien Needs a Friend - Conan shoots the **** with a variety of amusing guests.

Dan Carlin's Hardcore History - Do you like incredibly interesting long-form monologues about a wide variety of historical events/periods? Dan has got you covered.

S-Town - An investigation of an alleged murder in a small Alabama town by an NPR reporter turns into...something else.

Myths and Legends - Amusing and informative telling of folklore stories from around the world, ranging from Norse or Arthurian mythology to African or Korean folklore.

How Did This Get Made - Three people dissect terrible movies, generally in front of a live audience.

The Joe Rogan Experience is very hit or miss depending on the guests but the good ones are really good. Look through the archive and if you like the guest, listen to it and go from there.

+1 for JRE. When it's a quality guest it's one of the best podcasts out there. When the guest sucks or isn't interesting to you, it can be unlistenable.

I'm a big fan of Your Mom's House. But again, it can be bad if the guests are bad. It also needs to be watched on YouTube since they can be video heavy.

Bill Burr's Monday Morning Podcast is great as well, but if you don't like dudes ranting about stuff, you may not like it.

Bert Kreischer's Bertcast is pretty great as well.

I listen to probably 80% of JRE espisodes, but will echo what others have said, its all about the guest and if you are interested in their subject matter

My other can't miss is casefile - its about crime cases that usually take place in Australia and sometimes USA. Most weeks its a self contained episode of 1-2 hrs, for big cases they will do 3, 4 or even 5 part miniseries

Dirty John and Dr. Death were both great.

I really enjoy some of Joe Rogan's podcasts when he gets really big names on there.

Don't feel dumb because I had to ask yesterday. The last time I listened to a podcast you had to download it on iTunes and then I quit doing it because they were stacking up quicker than I could listen to them. I have an iPhone so I downloaded the Apple Pod app and that's all I needed. Pretty simple. Hope that helps!

One that is not technically a podcast because it is an audible original, but was similar in style and length to the Dirty John and Dr. Death Poscasts is "The Deamon Next Door".

It's actually about an Aggie that was a serial killer and rapist who ended up being executed. Some of the story takes place in College Station.

Comedy Bang Bang, if you like improvisational comedy. Wouldn't necessarily call it intellectually stimulating, but I think it's hilarious.

The Andy Daly Podcast Pilot Project is funny too, but he only does a few episodes per year.

Also a fan of the previously mentioned Conan O'Brien one.

99% Invisible is a great podcast that talks about the design behind everyday things. As an architect, I especially love it but it'll be enjoyable for just about everyone. Roman Mars and his team do an exceptional job of telling a story in roughly 30 minute episodes.

Repost from a similar thread last year with some updates...

99% Invisible - Stories on design/architecture. That's usually not my thing but this podcast is usually really interesting. I often get caught up enough where I google the topic afterward to learn more.
RadioLab - Good documentary/special interest stories podcast. Avoids getting too political like This American Life often gets.
More Perfect - Interesting podcast on the Supreme Court from RadioLab guys, didn't dig the music theme from last season even though the accompanying stories were usually great.
This American Life - It's love or hate with the episodes. And I can never tell beforehand based on the episode summary. Sometimes it moves me to tears, other times I can't even finish it.
Stuff You Should Know - my go-to if I want to listen to something without needing to really pay attention. Or if I have kids in the car since it's G-rated and educational. Over a 1000 episodes, so it's also the fallback if waiting for other podcasts to release. I've listen to so many hours of this I feel like I actually know Josh and Chuck in real-life.
Movie Crush - movie podcast from SYSK's Chuck Bryant. Interviews C-F list celebrities or other podcasters on a particular movie. Sounds lame but I like Chuck Bryant...easy to listen to and we seem to have the same taste and sense of humor. I think that would be a requirement (i.e being familiar with SYSK) to like this one.
Unspooled - Decent movie podcast going through the AFI 100
How Did this Get Made? - Hilarious if you know the movie, but I don't 75% of the time.
30 for 30 - It's 30 for 30 in podcast form.
Serial - 1st season is legendary in the podcast world. I like S2 more than most. S3 was good but uneven.
Criminal - Usually interesting, and good if I need a short-running episode as they're usually around 30 min.
In The Dark - Interesting cases even though the host/producer is kind of grating. Really caught up in this season.
Reply All - Usually enjoy...negative marks for their inconsistent schedule and one of the host's annoying laugh. But the super tech support episodes are a favorite of mine.
Invisibilia - Catching up on this now. Some interesting stories.
Conan O'Brien Needs a Friend - I enjoy this, and not like I watch his show. He's funny. It's nice that he even often makes the commercials pretty amusing to where I don't even bother skipping.

If you like Science Fiction, sci-fi author Scott Sigler has a weekly Pod-cast where many/most of the episodes are chapters of his books. Sometimes it's him reading his own book, but more lately it's a pro narrator/reader.

I'd highly recommend his audio-books this way.

The Infected Trilogy (Infected, Contagious, Pandemic) - an alien invasion story with almost 100% human characters (sounds odd, but it works)
Earthcore - miners improbably stumble onto something very technically advanced!
Ancestor - a bio-technology really-bad-case scenario
Nocturnal - a buddy-cop story with bio/mutant bad guys (with a serious gross-out moment or two...)

if you get into those, there are other novels and short story compilations you'll be interested in. He has a young adult series I've avoided, and a "Galactic Football League" series I haven't really gotten into... but most all of his stories are set in the same "universe" so there are cross-overs and references between books. Not high literature, but enjoyable enough to devote workday commutes to.

They're not really avoiding politics like they used to.
