Canon T3 uses ef-s lenses. If you upgrade, you need to be careful that the new camera body likely will use EF lenses.

Do you want to stick with Canon?

Apologize if this has already been discussed on the 82 page thread.

I have an old T3 I bought in college for a photography class. Surprisingly, during this quarantine I have been using it often. I have a few questions.

1. For an amateur like me, will I notice much of a difference if I upgrade to another entry level camera like a T7? I assume technology has gotten much better over 10 years.

2. What camera would you recommend for a hobbyist that doesn't want to spend a large chunk of change? I mostly use it to take wildlife photos with my crappy telephoto lens. I try to shoot in RAW and post process so I don't really want a point and shoot. Basically is it better to buy a new entry level body or a used body?

Thanks again for the help.

You will notice a bigger difference from a lens upgrade than a camera upgrade to another entry-level camera.

I have no preference.

After reading your and Guitarsoup's comments, I guess I am asking does it make more sense to buy a new camera or just better lenses?

Thanks for the responses.

I agree with Gsoup saying buy good glass.

But then you are committing to Canon in a big way. Good glass is addicting.

Anybody use a Vello Battery grip? Thinking of getting one for my D500, B&H has them on sale right now. I tend to stick to manufacturer for the batteries themselves. Would I be disappointed in this grip?

I stopped using grips a long time ago. Can't help.

It isn't great, but I finally had a tiny success in my quest to photograph lightning!

I have a couple now and have used them on both Canon and the lone Nikon I've owned. They are made very well and work like the OEM grip for much less money. I even bought a used one from B&H once that never gave me a problem.

Has anyone ever used KEH Camera to purchase used lenses? Wondering if they are pretty reliable? Looks like a pretty professional website.

I've purchased several used lenses from KEH and been very happy.

Examine them carefully and test them immediately. They have an excellent return policy so if it is not up to your expectations then return it asap.

We purchased a Canon 100mm macro lens and it took forever to focus. We boxed it up and sent it back 3 days later.

what's the best lens rental company out there - I recently took the plunge and ended up with the EOS R (which I have to say, coming from my XSI is phoenomenal) and want to try out some different lenses before I buy anything else too expensive.

I've had 3 positive experiences with LensRentals.com, and if I need to rent anything in the future they will be who I call.

OK, I have a camera settings question.
Let's say I have a Nikon D4 inside of a pressurized box on the outside of the ISS. I'm trying to capture images or video of an unmanned Japanese cargo vehicle enter the atmosphere ~1900 nautical miles away, but it will be illuminated over a dark Earth just prior to sunrise.

What settings would you recommend?

It's been a while, but I have used Rentglass.com on several occasions and was pleased with their service. I even had one instance where FedEx screwed up the delivery and I didn't get the lens before leaving for a trip and they didn't charge me for it.

I have used this company several times and it's a great experience. They even shipped the last one to me 3 days early since they didn't have it rented.

Like Dubi, I have also bought from KEH and found them to be very reliable. The last several times I've wanted to buy used, their prices were higher than what I thought they should be. You might also look at mpb.com which someone recommended here a couple of years ago. I have also bought and sold with them.

They are extremely reliable. If it says excellent, it is like new. I have no problems buying bargain lenses from them.

To complete my transition over to Nikon, I'm getting rid of my T7I and actually bought a KEH d7200 on ebay.

EDIT: I was super tired but sober. lol \_()_/

Did you mean to say you recently purchased a d7200 from KEH?

I recently moved away from Nikon and have my old d7200 laying around that I would be willing to part with - it's still in great shape. I also have several Nikon lenses that I haven't got around to selling yet, if you're interested.

Typos, but yeah I basically bought a d7200 and will be selling my t7i. I am enjoying the d750 quite a bit.

I might be interested in lenses. Send me a pm.

Does anyone know anything about Four Seam Images? Are they reputable/fair? I don't have any experience selling photos, but they approached me.

So, I expected there to be a difference when i switched to the D750. I in no way was prepared for how large that difference was going to be. I've only shot a few times since getting it, but man the amount of information that is able to be drawn from under exposed areas is absolutely incredible. I'm very sad that I didn't do this years ago because I think of how poor the shadow areas of my images were on chase days the past 2 years and I really wish I had this camera for those outings.

I will say this, when shooting some sunflowers a couple of times over the past couple of weeks, getting color replication to the way I remember them being while out has been harder on the Nikon. I find myself spending a lot more time getting the color temp where I like it and a even messing with individual colors to get things right. I'm not sure if this was due to lighting conditions or just the way the Nikon will be, but for me its not as good as the Canon in this regard. That being said, 100% prefer the dynamic range over easier colors. And I'm not even sure the colors will be a running theme. The times when I have shot tings other than the sunflower field its been perfect all around.

Yeah I have been following the progress of that comet for a while. This one finally looks promising, after the two previous ones that fizzled after their close approach to the sun. Right now the problem here in B/CS is getting clear skies in the pre-dawn hour and a horizon clear of trees. Plus the moon is just past full. Maybe later this week will be better on those issues.

I'm not too worried about the moon since if you see it it will be against a fairly sunlit sky but the clouds here are a huge issue. Plus the Saharan dust!

I got a Panstars comet in 2011. Was naked eye visible but I had the 7k elevation and dry air of Santa Fe. I was barely learning photography back then so photos are meh but I was pretty stoked.

EDIT: I guess it was in 2013.

This was with a point and shoot and I didn't even use a tripod. Just rested it on a top of my car.

NNW of Calvert FM 1373 makes a sharp north turn. At that run, there's some tracks. That is where it was taken. Had some fun there on a few nights earlier this summer.
