Realplayer. I have used it for years and have never had issues. When you install it, enable the browser download addon and you're set.

Just use KeepVid.com. You don't have to worry about downloading any software and it works pretty well.

youtube-dl for linux is the best. It's command line based, but it's dead simple.

Don't know anything about the Mac/Windows options.
