Wait. BC2 gives you more health than CoD? I thought one of the appeals of BC2 was the realism?

We all know (at least on Xbox) that we will only ever touch hardcore mode anyway, just like bc2. I'm excited to see how that
Mode shakes out, and to play without the red spotting icon above everyone's heads.

Have you played BC2? The damage model in the regular game mode is horrendous. Most of us regulars love it for the hardcore mode, which is generally a 2- to 3-hit kill model.

There are those that will disagree with me, but Battlefield 3 is the first to really put an emphasis on realism, but even then the whole series is still rather arcadey. Regular infantrymen being able to jump in jets, helicopters, and tanks at a moments notice? Yeah... that certainly realistic.

The appeal of Battlefield is largely the bigger maps and vehicle warfare, giving a better sense of being involved in a large scale war. Call of Duty is no better than spawn-shoot-die shooters like Halo.

Haha, yes I've played it. I made the official thread on here for it way back when. I guess I was thrown off by the way that article described the retail game being "better" with more health, allowing for more strategic, played-out battles, etc.

I find myself disagreeing with this. Hardcore lent itself to sniper hoars and twitch reflexes whereas normal seemed to reward those that had some level of tactics in their attack/defense of a position, especially in conquest.

In the end, I didn't really care though. I ended up on random squads more often than not. After the first couple of months there weren't many people that seemed to play from here...or maybe I just need more people on my friends list.

Couldn't disagree more. Several times I flanked a group of soldiers and should have been able to take them all out, but thanks to the screwed up damage model I usually only got one down (almost emptying my magazine) before the others turned around and took me down.

Agreed.

And snipers should be 1 shot 1 kill, especially with the 50 cal barrett - even if it is cheap ***** That's what counter snipers, air support and artillery are for.

Ummm...No, it is already Battlecampfare 3....you want to make it worse.

The whole team will be snipers and you will never get an Mcom.

I've only played the beta 3 or so times, but I didn't have any bad experience with campers. Played as attackers 2/3 times, won it once and made it to the last stage the other time.

A .50 cal round should be a 1 shot kill, hardcore or not.

When we had a good TexAgs party going (for MONTHS after the release of BC2), we played exclusively hardcore mode and didn't have any problems beating an opposing team that was full of snipers. One shot-one kill or not, if you have a good team you'll beat a team of campers.

Hopefully everyone on the xbox plays hardcore mode again.

HC for sure. Like someone else said, you might get popped by a sniper once, but if you are in a halfway decent squad, you should be able to re-spawn and kill them or get a squadmate to do so.

I actually like the spotting system in regular modes - feels more realistic as you can communicate enemy positions with teammates. Plus, it's really line of sight spotting and once the spotter dies, the carrots disappear.

Hardcore (though I like the spotting in Softcore...)

Also, thank you for calling it a 'magazine'... 'clips' are for your hair, 'magazines' are for your death.

If you're entering an entire magazine into a group of soldiers after you turned a corner (this suggests they are at relatively close range) and only taking one down, it's probably because you're missing (a lot) and not the damage model. Even most of the weakest guns take at most 6 hits to take somebody down without a single headshot (those guns also tend to have rather large magazines so once again if you're emptying it, you're probably missing them a lot).

Felt the same way. Also, I am pretty disoriented without the map. I don't mind the health being less, but these 2 things made HC much more challenging for me. I rely on both greatly in regular game-mode. If only there could be a mode with decreased health but WITH those 2 things.

I'm not missing. The damage model blows. I'm obviously not the only one that believes this.

Another good reason I run support classes - with extended mags and the ammo specialization, I have 200 rounds at my disposal.

The weapon damages at various distances as well as the amount of health available on regular and hardcore modes are readily available. The only way to expend an entire magazine to kill a single individual is if most of the rounds are missing the target.
