To add to the PES video (I know it's soccer, but just watch how the controls work) the controls for football could really be done up right if EA or would take advantage of the IR remote like Konomi has done with this game.
For instance, in PES to make a player sprint/dribble you grab him with the IR remote and DRAG him down the field. A pointer drags out in front of the player indicating his direction. The further out you drag it, the faster he goes. You can also use this to change direction. Normal dribble is handled with the nunchuk control stick. Using both cause the player to do different moves/fakes.
The game also keeps track of player fitness DURING the game (does NCAA/Madden do this??). As games drag on, a player will get more a more tired. So doing a bunch of those sprints with the same guy will wear him out and his shooting/dribbling/passing will suffer.
Can you see directing your RB with this grab/drag method. You can run him up the line, then as the hole opens, SPRINT through the gaps, then use the nunchuck along with the IR to make feigns and moves to juke players. I know Madden/NCAA has the "sprint" button, but you're really limited to TWO speeds. Fast and button-mash 'sprint'.
Audible routes would be a breeze. Simply hightlight the player with the IR remote, press his route and you're done (instead of X-R1-Y). Imagine you're the QB rolling out to escape a rush, want to direct your WR to cross the field, or the TE to block someone, again the IR remote is invaluable here. You can't do that with a standard controller.
The problem with the Wii isn’t that it’s a kids console. The problem is that developers completely under estimated it’s popularity and have dropped the ball on game development.
And I’m just not a graphics fan boy. I don’t care how pretty a game looks, if the game play sucks, the game sucks. The 480p graphics on the Wii are fine with me (and many of the Nintendo games look really good – again, outside developers are dropping the ball here).
