Yep Stephen AI, racism for sure..... no way a black QB would be picked in as the first pick, let alone in the first round.....

Oh wait.......Cam says hello....

To echo what CCLaw said - I was good friends with a football coach for about 15 years and knew him during the ridiculous Kaepnerick stuff.

His opinion always sticks with me.
NFL owners want to win. Their executives want to win. Their coaches want to win.
They don't give a flying *** how they win or who they win with, as long as they win.
The Eagles signed Michael Vick without a second thought after he was out of prison for killing hundreds of dogs because they knew he could help them win.
The Ravens had no problem sticking with Ray Lewis even though he very likely killed somebody or watched someone else kill them.
If you can play football, NOTHING stops some team from signing you, and then giving you 6 million chances, like Josh Gordon. Gordon started failing drug tests at Baylor in 2011 and still got drafted and then had that one incredible season in 2013, missed 3 entire seasons suspended and failed 50 drug tests, but teams were STILL signing him in the 2020s.

The point being: The reason you're not getting signed (Kaepnerick) or drafted (Shedeur) is because teams think you suck at football and you're not worth a roster spot. If you're a dick on top of that, you'll never make it.

The league also doesn't like guys whose media coverage exceeds their talent. I think that's partly why guys like Tebow, VY and JFF had such a hard time finding a spot. Teams don't want the media crowded around their backup QBs.

Amen.

And your list of examples could have gone on for pages.

All of those guys had elite talent. If you're a proven starter, you can bring along an entourage of drama. If you're a backup or practice squad guy, nope.

Kap was a bit of a special case. He may have been a starter, but he had the potential to damage the entire league (and in fact did). More than anything, the owners want to protect each other. It's like C-suite salaries. You want to believe it's determined by the market, but the reality is that if one person takes a hit, everybody does. They have to work together when it comes to dealing with threats.
94chem,
That, sir, was the greatest post in the history of TexAgs. I salute you. -- Dough

Bernie Sanders will hear his name called before Shedeur Sanders.

2 of those were just bad and 1 was bad and an absolute malcontent as a pro.

Who cares

He's one spoiled rotten kid. I will not lose any sleep even if it is collusion.

Which do you think would be worse/funnier? Shedeur going undrafted or being drafted last?

Maybe Steelers take him at 123? Even if they get Rodgers, could be a good value pick at this point.

Talents and reasons why teams stayed away clearly varied (and you could throw in Kaep). But you'd be hardpressed to say there were at 64 better QBs when they were run out of the league.

Once they were no longer viewed as starters, their celebrity worked against them as backups.

I I drafted him I'd have a Deion clause in the contract - your dad isn't allowed at any facility while you're playing here.

It's not because of racism like the media wants to claim, but it's pretty clear at this point that there is some league wide collusion going down. There is no organic explanation for Sanders falling this far.

At this point being a free agent might be better for him so he can pick a scenario that's best for all involved.

There are lots of explanations other than collusion. Just read previous posts.

It's perfectly reasonable that after he slipped, teams are weighing the drama vs juice of him being in a backup role and deciding to fill more immediate needs rather than risk it.

I don't think it's collusion, I think it's supply and demand. At this point there aren't a lot of starting qb spots open in the league, and you assume Rodgers and Cousins will take two of those spots.

And for the teams with a starting qb in place, when do you pull the trigger on a backup, or a "flip" prospect? First 3-4 rounds are a little rich for that.

The Rams would be a great spot for him. Let him sit behind Stafford this year and see what you have next year.

I'll say it again…if Sanders is still there when Dallas uses their last pick in the 7th round, Jerry will take him…

Eh. If he wasn't Deion's kid, he wouldn't have had the coverage in college he did. He was solid but by no means awesome. Poor interviews, overbearing father, questions of entitlement and arrogance. It's not crazy.

And he has much less suitors than most. Teams with a QB probably want no part of the circus he would bring. Because of that, there's probably only about 8-10 teams that had him on their board at all.

Heck yeah! Polish him up and showcase him in training camp and preseason….and trade him for something better..,but not a RB…nope, don't need any of those!

You think his Maybach can get from Canton to San Antonio by 2:00?

Maybe the Broncos take him at 134? Payton has been very complimentary towards Sanders.

On the plus side, this is probably the most people who have ever followed the 4th-7th rounds of the draft.

I was curious since they just showed Dak as a 4th round pick. Turns out, Dak and Shadeur had really similar numbers their last 2 years.

The organic explanation is Manziel, part 2, with half the talent and twice the coke.

On the other hand…maybe it is collusion. Maybe this is a coordinated effort to cause Skip Bayless to stroke out.

One anonymous longtime NFL assistant coach was quoted by NFL Network assessing that Sanders "takes unnecessary sacks. He never plays on time. He has horrible body language. He blames teammates. But the biggest thing is he's not that good."The same anonymous coach called Sanders "entitled" and that the formal interview with the prospect was the "worst" he had been a part of. Another longtime AFC executive echoed that sentiment: "It didn't go great in our interview. He wants to dictate what he's going to do and what's best for him. He makes you feel small."[34]

I'm gonna make a call that Miami takes him in the 5th round…

They have 3x 5th round picks….and who knows how much longer Tua will last….

Could be their last 5th round pick but that's my worthless .02

I'm starting to wonder the same thing. At this point, what's the downside of taking Sanders? Odds are, your pick probably isn't making the roster, much less being a star. If Sanders does bust, what's the harm?
