It's shocking to me that people want the color of a team that wanted nothing to do with this city. Give it up.

I get the nostalgia, but this team has been around for 20 plus years

Columbia blue has been a color associated with Houston for over half a century. I get it

Blue has to do with more than just the oilers. The police cars, street signs, etc were all Columbia blue. I wasn't alive back then, but have been told and show'd pictures of it.

I actually agree and say it every time talks of a throwback or new uniform mock or something come up.

Get over it already. Use a new color and create an identity instead living in the past clinging on to something that's has nothing to do with this team.

It was one stupid demon of a geezer who didn't want anything to do with the city.

Don't mix up the franchise for the Adams.

The Oilers perfectly represented what Houston was in the 70s and 80s - working class town that grew up into something special. Short of winning a Super Bowl, I'm not sure the Texans will ever replicate the passion for the Oilers at their peak.

I'd pay $1,000 to chip into the massive fine the franchise got if they ever just rolled up in the Columbia Blue for a game, although I suspect they'd be made to forfeit if they didn't change uniforms.

I'm glad the Texans are trying to capture something new but it is going to be hard. The oilers color combination is a very nice classic. I did not live in Houston until after they were already gone but love that classic look. There's just not many teams that have a solid combination. Most teams have horrible combos. It's too bad this one has been ruled out.

As others have said, that color is just more than the Oilers, it is historical to the City…I was born in Houston, and, that color is just associated with so much more.

Exactly

Look at the Cleveland Browns for instance. They had to get a new team and owner just like Houston but the NFL made sure they kept their uniforms. But nope, screw Houston, you don't get the same rules. Even though Houston's classics are actually nice.

I always heard the reason for that was that Bud Adams was the original owner, so he had more rights than Art Modell.

Maybe bc the browns was their actual nickname.

the color/uniform/name staying behind was part of the settlement of a lawsuit between Modell and city of Cleveland.

Modell wanted to leave several years before their stadium lease was over, hence the lawsuit. the oilers had planned to stay until the lease ended. it was only when no one showed up the second last year that they negotiated a deal to let oilers leave a year early. harris county didn't have the leverage that city of cleveland had.

Granted that was all before my time but I'm not buying this.

If it was so important and historical to the city why does it no longer exist? Nowadays it's only seen on throwback Oiler stuff. Besides UH I just don't see everyone showing their city pride dawning the Luv Ya Blue color on anything.

The fact that it disappeared from existence with the Oilers points to it being nothing more than a team color.

Did Cleveland know they were getting another team prior to Model leaving?

Houston had no idea if they were getting another team again so probably not that much interest at that time in a legal battle with Adams.

The city filed a lawsuit which Houston could have done and kept the name and kits

Nobody cared as 2 people went to the save the Oilers rally

You are probably too young to have been there. I can confidently say you are mistaken.

Houston was sick of Adams holding a perpetual gun to the head of his own hometown. The deal was done by the time of the silly rally. Houston could not save the Oilers and was very ready to let Adams finally run off to Nashville.
Pahdz

Honest question...did you grow up in Houston or just end up there after school?

I think the answer to "was it Adams or the fans" that drove the team out of town is somewhere in the middle.

I like the old color scheme and all, but what stings the most is we had, outside of Pittsburgh, the most iconic team name and logo combo that exemplified the city, and when we finally got an expansion team, we got the most generic BS name, logo and color scheme.

"Texans" is hands down one of the worst names in the league. And even worse a recycled name.

I grew up here.

I remember going to games when the oilers were "good" and the stands were empty. I know the rally wouldnt/didn't matter.

Truly a legendary combo.

I don't recall empty stands when the team was good, but then again I was 14 and now 45. I was there in person to see an AARP Joe Montana work us over and Keith Cash throw the ball at a Buddy Ryan sign after a touchdown. That was brutal.

I remember the tearing out of the Dome's scoreboard to add seats for Adams, then a few years later that wasn't good enough.

How anyone not related to Adams lives without any sort of disdain for the guy is beyond me. I'm well aware that Houston sports fan on the average is fickle and far from a diehard, but to act like the entire blame of losing the Oilers is on the fan is a little short sighted.

Pahdz

Recycled, and in fact one that was used by our "rival" in state city and became another freaking franchise.

Such a joke
