Comparing him to Dak is ******ed.

Great game. Damn I wanted Lions to win but the 49ers have been building a champion longer. Lions are in a good spot.

Really pulling for the chiefs now. Don't want the 49ers to pass us in overall super bowls and I hate the 49ers anyway.

Seems like once Dallas got knocked out of the playoffs, everyone's field goal kicker started sucking. I've seen or heard about more missed kicks in the playoffs then it seems like I saw during our regular season. Our kicker pretty much never missed a kick, but I don't recall other teams missing kicks against us often either.

Just ****ty luck in that department I guess.

We absolutely would have lost last night, but man Dan Campbell should have kicked that FG in the 4th rather than go for it. But if he converts and scores a TD he's a genius.

I just don't think there's valor, or whatever, in being reckless. That's what I believe Dan has been.

The excuse of, 'well, that's what we've been all year' is not an excuse to be reckless. Playing on the road in the NFC championship game is not the same as a week three game against the falcons. I'm not against analytics, but I believe they have become probelmatic because it seems there's no longer any room for nuance of individual games and situations.

The other thing that I'm not sure analytics can account for is how momentum swings can affect games. It's very clear that first failed 4th down completely changed the momentum of the game. You just can't look at everything in a statistical vacuum.

Agree... Dan lost the game on the first 4th down attempt.

He was up by 17 at the half and then SF comes out and gets 3. His offense drives right down the field and has the opportunity to match the FG. He could have looked over at Shanahan and said, "OK, we just wasted 7 minutes of the 2nd half and we still lead by 17... your move!".

3 points would have been HUGE in that situation... the 3rd quarter was halfway over and Detroit proved they could just sit back and run the ball... just a dumb dumb dumb decision!

The NFL is a results oriented business, and no one cares that you "stayed true to who you were." The result is that you lost and not kicking AT LEAST one of those FGs on 4th down heavily contributed to their L. I didn't and still don't have a problem going for it on the first 4th down. That's actually a good spot to do it imo. You are up 14, cruising and want to completely break them. No problem trying to do that through being aggressive, but the not kicking the second FG is meat head football. You could've TIED THE GAME. You took your team straight out of it at that point.

As I said, I personally think the 1st attempt was the deal breaker... but the 2nd attempt was 100% him not learning from the Cowboys game all over again.

We're going for it... it didn't work... go for it again... it didn't work but we still have another chance.... GO FOR IT!!!!!!

Agree. And I think there's another element here. Obviously, Dan and the Lions were a really bad football team two years ago so having the gunslinger underdog mentality can serve you well in the games and can help w buy-in from the team.

They are now a very good team that prob deserves to go to the Super Bowl this year. I feel like being that reckless when your team is really good actually has a much bigger negative effect on the outcome because, in many ways, I think they were the better team yesterday. By doing what he did, he actually allowed a team new life that he was actually handling well.

One thing that I couldn't help but think about yesterday, especially during the NFC Championship game:

The ability to run the ball as well as the ability to stop the run are still very important things in this pass happy league!

I'm not sure this is a fair statement. Going out and getting Brandin Cooks and Gillmore were not style moves. And it worked... at certain points this year, people considered us the best team in football (which was a revolving door for a few teams... Philly, Miami, SF, Baltimore... it was a wild year).

But, to your point, if this is indeed an "All In" / "Screw 2025 & 26" year, then we need to see a move for somebody like Chris Jones this offseason.

They were style moves in the fact that we knew we were going to be poor on run defense again this year and did nothing to address that area. The Cowboys have to get serious about bringing guys in on defense with a different attitude and a willingness to stop the run. We also need to become a better running team again.

IDK. I think they tried. They brought in Hankins two years ago and drafted Mazi in the first round. I think it's fair to criticize the laxed attitude toward LBer, but I think did make an effort...just not good enough.

I just think you are looking at the results vs. what they actually did. The Cowboys have one of the best all around run/pass DE's in the game in Tank. They re-signed Hankins. The re-signed LVE. They drafted Mazi & Overshown.

I think they saw the problem and I believe they felt like they had good solutions in place. Injuries to LVE and Overshown really hurt us and getting absolutely NOTHING from Mazi was the nail in the coffin.

They had a great offseason fixing the passing game and getting Gillmore to secure their secondary was brilliant (especially not knowing Diggs was going down). But they 100% whiffed on their big moves to secure our defensive front 7.

Agree with the above. They definitely tried to address the issues we saw play out in EVERY loss we had this year. They just didnt work because of injuries and a whiff on Mazi. I don't even know that I blame them for the mazi pick. The bill on that guy was a sure run stuffing disruptor and he wasn't at all.

The 1 mistake they made was thinking that Pollard and that RB crew could get it done, and then not addressing it at the trade deadline.

Saquon may be the move...

I agree, I'd love a savage in the middle of that DLine, but I we can get 1 or 2 that specialize in just stuffing the run/holding the line, Bobby Wagner and Saquon for a little more than the price of a Chris Jones.

That's going ALL IN to me.

I'll concede that they took a big swing with Mazi Smith, and he was supposed to be a key piece in making sure we weren't getting run over on defense. Losing LVE was also a big blow, no arguing that, but resigning Hankins and drafting a rangy/lanky Overshown were never significant fixes in solving our defensive issues. We've also whiffed on drafting LBers as a whole the past few years.

Edit: if we are really going for it this year, be active in free agency, trade up to get "the guy," or spend significant draft capitol on fixing positions that have KILLED YOU the past 3-5 years.

I still believe that our ability to run the ball had a lot more to do with Mike/schemes than our talent. We constantly chose to "load the box" with WRs & TEs and then acted surprised when those guys couldn't consistently block LBs and run blitzing safeties.

I don't know how many times I threw my hands up this year when we lined up in a 2 TE set... and then motioned a WR in tight (which brought another DB into the box with him)... and then we ran into a wall of bodies for maybe 2 yards.

I don't give a crap if you spent a 2nd rounder on Schoonmaker... get his ass off the field and line up with Fergy and 3 WRs. Constantly threaten the defense with pass and when they start backing off, hit 'em with the run!!!

I don't know much about Ben Johnson other than the fact that he's a hot name right now... but if big Mike doesn't get it done next year, it's likely he's one of our top candidates.

Dan Quinn's turnover margin and Dak Prescott are 95% of the reason for Dallas' three straight 12 win seasons. One is now gone and many want the other one gone. Draw conclusions about this fanbase from that as you see fit.

Hmm, I didn't expect him to go to a division rival but am ok with the move. Ready for a new defensive philosophy and someone who can make draft picks who contribute early. Mazi Smith doing nothing all year was a big dissapointment. I contribute that pick to DQ.

If I were a Washington fan I'd be punching the air rn. Dan Quinn has proved himself to be a really average head coach, especially without an elite offensive coordinator. I also would not want him to be involved with picking my future QB with the second pick. No thank you.

I get what you are saying, but the old adage...what have you done for me lately applies. We are two weeks removed from watching Dak poop the bed and Dan Quinn implement a seriously questionable defensive game plan against the #7 seed...at home. The wound is still fresh. I don't expect Dak to go any where, but he deserves criticism for his playoff performance against Green Bay.

First game of the playoffs gets here with best path to the NFC title game we've had since 1995.

What happens?

A lowly 9-8 team comes in and wins. Not only do they win, but they hand the cowboys the most shocking and gut wrenching loss of that I've seen as a fan in probably the last 20+ years. They lost in every way imaginable. Got totally embarrassed and destroyed on national tv by a bad team.

How the hell do you not make big changes after a loss like that? We lost that game because of the defense and the defensive or in this case "an offensive" game plan by the defense assembled by Dan Quinn.

Good riddance. Winning 12 games a year doesn't mean squat if you choke and get totally pantsed by inferior competition in the playoffs.

Agree.

I like DQ and think he's a good DC but his advanced metric stuff and efficiency stuff that the analytic folks use show the cowboys defense trending down for 2 seasons now. I think it was time for a fresh voice.
