I think this past draft was and is going to prove to be a pretty bad one across the board. Some guys will emerge like they always do, but I have a feeling that more than usual this draft will be forgettable around the league, and a lot of guys will end up being JAGs.

Yeah he is supposed to be a gap plugger but every snap I saw of him he was ending up in the LBs lap. Was hoping for more leverage and ability to stalemate the o-line. Granted it is his first NFL experience and he has some learning to do, but he looked like he was on skates a lot. Hopefully a learning experience and he can play lower and actually clog up the works on opposing o-lines.

The early criticism is he's not getting off the ball quickly. He losing that initial punch to more experienced guys. That is something you can get a lot better at. His raw talent and size is there.

He may work out. You don't need to be a splash player to contribute at that position, you just can't keep getting beat.

All the film junkies on YouTube still love Mazi. That position is just a low key position unless your arron Donald. The reality is the defensive stats last season when Hankins was on or off were staggering and yet I dont remember a single Hankins highlight. A big badass DT pays dividends and its not always sexy looking.

Aaron Donald is a 3T not a 1T like Mazi. From what I saw on film he did his job and did it well. He maintained his position, took on double teams and held his ground, which is what you want from a 0/1T. He won;t make flashy plays very often, like a Donald, but he should help contain the run which is what we need.

To be fair, there was an article written yesterday or the day before talking about how well he's done in the pass blocking areas of practice. I'll see if I can scrounge it out.

1000% this. 0T or 1T is not a fun or "sexy" job but it is absolutely vital to a defense operating a peak efficiency

I didn't re-watch the game so I don't have much of a Mazi opinion / scouting report. But what I do remember is that Overshown and Clark, for the most part, had free reign to make a run at ball carriers. That doesn't happen if your D-line isn't holding.

As for Deuce in pass blocking, I can't say anything about that either, but I don't see why size would limit him here. RBs will often go low when pass blocking and Deuce will be like a bowling ball. Outside of being a rookie and needing to learn the concepts, he hopefully won't be limited here.

This is the only "decent" preseason game right? #2 is the dress rehearsal or whatever. I know the last one is terrible. Just bench guys fighting to make the team.
